A good omen, methinks.
Just had a visit from a young hawk. Really!

It's rainy here, and a little while ago, up comes a beautiful bird, I think a juvenile red-tailed hawk, and lands on the balcony railing right in front of this window. Bird shivers a little, looks around, and then flies up onto a sheltered nook. Remained there for a good 1/2 hour, out of the rain, before flying off a second ago.

I love hawks, and always treat their appearance as a good sign of something. My only flying dream ever was in the form of a bird-of-prey, and I'll never shake that thrilling sensation.

Oh, and I should mention that this hawk visit occurs in NYC!

Here's a blurry pic:

1. A good omen, indeed!
Hawks are considered messengers by native Americans. What a gorgeous bird!

2. Great pic!
I'm not a bird expert, I just happen to have a BIL who has an animal rescue station for birds of prey, and here's a Kestrel who was released two weeks ago:

4. Me too!
:hi: ThomCat!

I didn't get the thawed raw turkey burger out in time to offer the hawk any incentive, but they're always welcome here....

6. Derby and I saw a redtail hawk yesterday
in the heart of Dallas. We were stopped at a signal light and out of
the blue, a Hawk swooped down and grabbed a smaller bird. I thought
it was a pigeon, but Derby thought it was a Mockingbird. The Hawk
began to fly with his prey and was struggling to gain lift. Fortunately,
the oncoming traffic was stopped or he would have been hit by a car.

It's sad, really. Their habitat is quickly disappearing.
