Just got back from New Orleans |
|
I was on a business trip, so I was busy with my work most of the time.
I flew down Saturday, came back today.
Absolutely gorgeous architecture...at least the stuff I saw in the French Quarter. The people were really friendly.
But...it is far off from recovering. Not many tourists (compared to what I had heard it was like before Katrina)...and a lot of places were closed, limited hours..etc
I ate a shrimp po boy...a beignet (spelling??) and I had some other great cuisine at Nola's, The Court of the Two Sisters...but missed out on some other places because being a newbie to the city...I didn't know much. My coworker tried to find places he had remembered but some were closed down due to Katrina.
I have to say I stopped and stared like a goober at the Jackson Square area and the church...it was really nice to see it in person.
Funny moments....for a Pittsburgher in NOLA...
1. making fun of Eagles fans...(we were wearing steeler stuff)....it was all good natured...and then finding out they lost...so kudos to the Saints and well too bad for the Eagles.. 2. Going to the Hilton to watch the game and seeing members of the Steeler Nation...even in New Orleans...
I couldn't help out in relief efforts due to work so I shopped...bought stuff from local artists and shopkeepers...
Hope to go again with the family...

2. is he originally from Pittsburgh? |
|
or just a fan?
I met a lot of people who were not from da Burgh in NOLA...and many were steeler fans from their youth ...the '70s Steelers were a big deal for people in my age group...even those who didn't live in Pgh..
