I just finished watching season one of Rome (spoilers) |
|
Okay, I knew that Caesar would die in this last episode and was prepared for that. I would have liked to see reaction outside of the Senate.
I thought Servilia getting the upper hand over Atia was a nice touch and it was a good if complicated feeling to see a thawing of relations between Pullo and Eirene. The thing that was intensely difficult was the death of Niobe. I knew that Vorenus would find out about her affair and Lucius' true parentage, but had hope that his love for her would overcome his sense of wounded honor in time.

2. Waaaaaay too much sex for that. |
|
The story incorporates real political events and the lives of the upper classes with some wholy fictitious plebs. It's pretty interesting.
So far nobody has an evil twin or amnsesia, either. :D

4. Oddly enough, the sex is pretty tame and doesn't seem to be intended to |
|
titiliate. Unless a lot of people are into may/december lesbian scenes (with women who appear to be primarily hetero) and a incest scene, neither graphic. Oddly enough, considering the reputation of romans, there's no gay male scenes, though the possibility is hinted at, once when men are lined up with women for a teenage boy's potential first time at a high-end whorehouse, and once when the sound of one of Caesar's seizures is mistaken for a clandestine encounter with the same boy (though in both cases there appears to be no societal stigma, his mother encourages him to seduce Caesar and her instructions are merely to go to the brothel and penetrate someone, with no apparent preference for the gender of that someone.)

7. I've thought about watching it.... |
|
...but I get bent out of shape when watching shows like that. I'm a Roman historian, and I get frustrated with historical inaccuracies. I know, it's my problem, and I should get over it and just enjoy it for what it is. For a fellow veggie, I'll bite the bullet and check it out...
