Study Says Unhappy Kids Are Better At Math
<snip>

WASHINGTON -- Here's one for the school books. Countries whose kids are the least happy, least confident math students also do better on math tests.

A study by the Brookings Institution suggests countries that report higher levels of enjoyment and confidence among their math students don't score as well.

So how about the United States? Those results hover somewhere around the middle of the pack, both in terms of enjoyment and in actual test scores.

As a result, study author Tom Loveless says educators and parents might want to focus on what kids are learning -- and "just be a little less obsessed with the fact that they have to enjoy every minute of it."

1. Uh, oh. Baby Midlo loves Math and is good at it.
I guess I should stop beating her and let her sleep indoors tonight.

2. i think it might be due to overconfidence
feeling comfortable with the subject matter can sometimes lead to laziness on the part of the students or, lack of review. My son is good at Math but he recently scored a C on test. Why? Becuase he kind of rushed through it and then didn't go back over his work.

5. I was a miserable kid and a math prodigy
Until I burned out somewhere doing differential equations...

Oddly enough, my interest in math gradually waned as I became more social and had more friends/girlfriends/etc.
