What band most deserves or deserved to be a "next Beatles"?
In your opinion, who makes the cut? I vote:

LEO
Squeeze (Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook)
Michael Penn
Neil Finn

4. It's not possible for there to be another Beatles
Today, the market is too segmented and diverse for any one band to dominate music trends.

That is my very cynical opinion!!

11. a good one.
thank freaking God for that, too. After Elvis kind of shook sex back out into the cultural mainstream, it just kind of freaking flew all over the place screaming "I'm free, I'm free!". I like it much better this way. He really did do a lot for humanity with that lone pelvis.

5. the dB's
They were sort of the Beatle's mirror image: a band with terrible luck and bad management, although I concede they were a little lacking in the vocals area

8. Jellyfish. Absolutely, hands-down, no-question.
Jellyfish only made two albums: "Bellybutton" and "Spilt Milk" - get them both. Now.

That is all.

10. Andy Sturmer's new band
You do know about LEO, don't you?
Andy Sturmer's new band?
The album premieres tonight. Get it at Cheap Lullaby Records. Go there and check out the mp3s of Goodbye Innocence and Private Line!

14. Yes, I know about LEO, but thanks for the reminder!
Also, check out "Imperial Drag" (Roger Manning & Co.) - they only did one album, but it's pretty good.

12. A band that can produce at least 3 quality albums per year
for 5 years...

That has three lead singers...

That has three very good composers...

that has a production genius like George Martin helping them release the creativity....

Not likely in our lifetimes...

15. Not in today's "Here Today, Gone The Next HOUR" environment.
I truly don't think there will be any more "Next Big Things" or "Next Big Band". Singers sound too much alike. Pro-Tools leaves music sterile. ClearChannel has a stranglehold on every artist. Labels generally refuse to allow artists to breathe without at least one or two "big hits". The only creativity found in modern music exists on Back_Of_Bob's_Garage records, where maybe they'll get, at best, 2000 fans.
