Artichoke hearts are optional. Most pizza places here don't have it. :(

What? Did you really just ask that? Nobody has ever warned you about CT people and our pizza? We're hardcore to the point of openly mocking New Yorkers about the crap they try to pass as pie. (We wouldn't be so rude about it if New York Style wasn't an inferior facsimile of New Haven style and they didn't try to claim it's between their crap and Chicago. A fight NYC can't win.
Pizza was imported to America by a man named Frank Pepe who opened a pizza shop on Wooster Street in New Haven called appropriately enough, Pepe's, in 1925. It was the first pizza shop in America and served pizza in the style of Naples, Italy. Pizza styles in Italy vary widely...Sicilian pizza is big and square and thick, Rome's pizza is cheese-less and red, Venice and Florence are white, cheese-less and layered with seafood. All American pizza since is descended from the Naples pizza-style (Crust, Cheese, White or Tomato sauce) and specifically from Pepe's style (thin enough that the dough is nearly-translucent). The second pizza shop in America, Sally's Apizza, is also in New Haven and was opened by Frank Pepe's nephew Sal Consiglio. Rivalry between the shops is fierce to the point that the New Haven Register a few years back said that it made the Cold War look tame. The argument: Pepe's serves only white pizza (Famously, a white with clam worth killing over), Sally's serves only red pizza (famous for pepperoni and cheese)
New York style is nothing but a lame rip-off, they're bigger so they think they can take CT's pizza and call it their own. Too bad they suck at it which is why Chicago makes better pizza than New York.

22. When my older son was in kindergarten |
|
he insisted that I had to put raw onions on his sandwiches. He came home one day, very upset because the kids had teased him about his breath.
I said, "Well y'know, honey, onions make your breath smell pretty stinky." He looked at me through teary eyes and said, "Ok...I guess I don't need friends."

It's "giadiniera" (only one "r"). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GiardinieraThe magical thing about giardiniera is that it stays crunchy even after being baked into a pizza. It is truly a magical substance.

42. It was pizza night unexpectedly for us as well |
|
We had Supreme, blue vein cheese pizza, garlic pizza and tandoori chicken pizza -actually we didn't have all of it -there are heaps of left overs. They seem to have given us one more extra pizza than we asked for
It was delicious
