So the city came through and cut down all the trees along the powerlines |
|
The idea being that winter is coming and the rare ice storms that Austin experiences will cause tree limbs to break onto the power lines. So they chopped down three trees in my wife's back yard (they promised to give us replacement trees but we know from experience they won't) and killed trees all over te neighborhood.
So now all the trees are down, and the squirrels have no way to run along the limbs as before, so they are now running along the power lines... and causing daily power outages in the neighborhood as the poor creatures are frying themselves on the transformers.
Nice work, eh?

3. They cut limbs on some trees. Took out whole trees in other cases. |
|
They had a bad attitude, too.

4. I bet they found cutting down the trees easier then cutting limbs. |
|
The power company did that a few years ago in my neighborhood.
They cut down some beautiful pecan trees in a vacant lot, these trees had the best pecans.

5. I think it's a time thing |
|
They only do this every four or five years, so I think they judge whether they can cut the limbs back so that they won't be a problem for five years. If not, they cut the tree. They haven't cut any oaks, mostly it's the fast growing stuff, like Hackberry and Ash. Those are also the ones that drop limbs most often.
