Difference in musical taste between DUers and freepers...
If you were to ask a DUer and a freeper, "What is the greatest musical album ever released?"

DUer reply:

"Oh easy. That would have to be "Clashing Cymbals in the Morgue" by Beronica Twaz and the Broken Shoelaces - but only the live bootleg version on a red plastic CD, transferred from the original red vinyl LP, which you can only obtain by traveling to Burkina Faso undercover, and hiking 18 miles through a rainforest to meet a guy named Scrimshaw Steve, and then meditating with him for 20 minutes while standing on one foot, then presenting him with either a CD of ayn unreleased demo track by Thurston Howell's Boner, or else a DVD of any live appearance by Brainwashing with Bleach. And even then, he may only let you have "Cymbals" if you carefully line up his collection of Shogun Warrior action figures into a previously un-thought of arrangement. But it's so worth it. There's nothing like hearing "Cymbals" through the truck's door speakers on a cold, windy night in Death Valley - after a few puffs of some wicked Mendocino bud, even the stars seem to be dancing in circles to it..."

Freeper reply:

"I guess that new Tim McGraw CD is pretty good."

5. Yeah, but
Timbo's got a clue. Seems a decent chap, I must say, from what I have seen of him.

Edit: Not that I /really/ knew much about him, but he was a big sports figure in my city when I was younger.

4. Are you saying that some DUers are pretentious gits like those dweebs I
went to university with in the '80s who seemed to like certain bands or types of music not because they actually liked the sound but because it made them feel so much more clever than the hoi polloi even though the main reason why the masses didn't embrace such pseudointellectual auditory nightmares was not that they missed some deeper message but because there really was no deeper message and, basically, the music sucked rather majorly? 'cos, if so...well...yeah. :D

10. somehow, i knew this would be a "let's bash Country thread"
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 02:27 AM by blitzen
i wish some of the country-bashers would listen to some real country--and by that I don't just mean the old historic greats (Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Thompson, Hank Sr., honky-tonk era Ray-Price, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, early and late Charlie Rich, etc., etc., etc...)

but also the current artists making incredibly good music--most recording out of Austin (Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen, Jack Ingram, Slaid Cleaves, Greg Trooper, Jim Lauderdale, Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez, Rodney Crowell, Dwight Yoakum, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, etc., etc..)

and the iconoclasts like Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, etc., etc..)

and the obscure greats such as Dick Curless, Red Simpson, Wynn Stewart, Ian Tyson, etc., etc..)

and don't forget the alt-country scene (Wilco, Ryan Adams, The Silver Jews, etc., etc...)

and the non-country artists who have made good country (Elvis Costello, Ray Charles, etc., etc..)

and the real rockabillies (Charlie Feathers, Sleepy LaBeef, etc., etc.)

and the great country-rock artists of the 60s and 70s (Gram Parsons, The Byrds, Doug Sahm, Michael Nesmith--yeah, the Monkees guy, Commander Cody, etc., etc.

and then there's Willie...'nuff said

nonetheless, on this we will agree: Freepers Suck!
