:grr: The company I work for has the crappiest computer system I have ever used. They use a VPN for remote locations like mine, and it slows things down to a snail's pace. I have been unable to get into my email or report writer all morning because it keeps timing out. I have reports due by midday today, and I know my boss is tired of hearing, "But my computer is so slow..." :eyes: Too bad---it's not my fault the company is so concerned about locking down this system and that system that it puts productivity in the toilet.
The IT help desk guys acknowledge that remote locations often have issues with speed and timeouts. However, the company is doing NOTHING about it but still holding us responsible for getting things in on time. I can't even run the requested reports (which were just handed to me at 8:30 AM), let alone turn them in. :grr: I have reported this to my manager many times and to the IT manager that works with us, and everyone says that "we're working on it" but nothing ever seems to get anywhere.
I hate Corporate America. :grr: :nuke:
P.S. We have high-speed internet at home, and my work connection is a part of this. We have NO speed issues at all with both home computers (one PowerMac and one PC), and I have tried the work connection with my laptop with no problems at all. It's my employer's system---no question about it.

2. That blows. Is there no computer at work you can make a RDC to? |
|
Then all you have to push is images and mouse/key movements. Much better than pulling gobs of data back and forth.
I feel your pain. My vpn from home in to the office is dead slow.

I'm glad you know how it is (although I wouldn't wish this on anyone). I have asked that very question, and the answer is, "No, but we're working on it." :eyes: Yeah, I've heard that before.
It's very frustrating.

:hi:  Ya know, I was just thinking about working on that resignation letter... Of course, it'll be a draft, but it'll be ready once I find a new job. :bounce:
I'm doing pretty well. I feel a lot better than I did earlier this week! Thanks for asking. :D And I hope you are too.

9. IT techies need to tell the suits how things are done. |
|
Suits usually go by marketing hype and don't understand why their Exchange servers keep crashing or why Windows keeps going blue on them or why systems have to be reimaged all the time.
But it's Microsoft.
Funny how I don't have those problems with other operating systems... yet I do windows. I'm trained and certified and run rings around most of my coworkers, so it's not 'operator error'. It's Microsoft Logic(tm).
But most of that is irrelevant to VPN connectivity, though Microsoft is known for releasing bloaty code and bloaty code translates into longer loading times.
The cost of infrastructure (bandwidth, et al) is very costly too.
They don't want extra support staff yet they don't want the means to make employees productive despite telling them they have to BE productive.
Why do they get paid so much again?
