how long do you keep receipts, bills??? |
|
I am trying to organize. I do not get my canceled checks, and can only access them for one year online. I believe I can get copies from the bank, but that's so long as they can find it in their archives. So, I'm not sure what to do. For utilities, I consider my current bill, stating, last payment rec'd, as a receipt. But for all else? I have bank statements, student loans, paid student loans and bills, health insurance claims, paychecks, it goes on and on.

1. I keep most paid bills for about one year. |

but it should be ok to throw the old bills out once you receive the next bill showing payment received. I only keep receipts I might need for tax purposes or warranties. Everything else I throw out. I've found if I keep too much stuff I can't find it anyway.
