What's the proper pronoun for a person in drag?
Do you refer to them as she if it's a guy in women's clothing?

Is this an insensitive post? i don't want to insult anyone, i just don't know.

I would refer to a man in drag as "she" unless she told me not to.

2. She. And refer to her by her name (if she has one).
Not by her male name.

You're not being insensitive. Feel free to ask.

8. oh come on...we almost had unanimous consent!
how does it depend on the venue? when would you/would you not refer to someone in drag as the sex of the outfit?

9. The one that person prefers.
Generally I would listen for the person to refer to themselves in a way that implies thier gender identity and failing that I would ask. "How would you prefer to be addressed?" is not an unreasonable or offensive question

12. I was thinking the other day that we need a new pronoun

for referring to a person but not in the specific: that is, when you don't know which individual you are referring to; and one that does not specify gender.

Basically I mean a word that is a synonym for "he or she", but is less hassle to say and write, and is not "it" (which indicates an inanimate object rather than a person).

How come we don't have one already?
