Is this normal?
We're buying a home. We've found a beautiful place out in the country. We close on Monday. We have waited so long for this and it really is a dream come true. Why do I feel like I'm waiting for the axe to fall? I'm so happy about this home, but now I feel like maybe I don't deserve to be this happy so something catastrophic is going to happen and it's all going to be taken away. Anyone else feel like this when buying a home? Please tell me this is just normal jitters. :scared:

1. Homes and new cars
Any type of big monetary commitment can work on anybody's nerves. It's great news and the rest of us here on DU are happy for you :hi:

2. Thank You
It really is a beatiful place we're buying. 1.2 acres full of trees and lots of room for my kids to run and play. They're going to love it. :D

3. Another positive, especially when it comes to the kids
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 07:48 AM by DaveTheWave
Everybody I know who has moved out to the country, mainly in a smaller town has found the schools to be much better, their kids grades and attendance increased and statistically the graduation rates in smaller towns/schools exceed the entire nation's average when it comes to high school graduates so a great move and decision on all accounts.

Another option as 1.2 acres is a good piece of property is the possibility to build a second home on it as I did for my mom when she became widowed. Even on my 0.6 acre lot with two houses we still have a yard that's too big in my opinion. The dogs love the running room though.

21. I second that about new cars.
I'm about to purchase a new car, and I'm nervous as hell. I can handle it financially, but I'm very twitchy.
(And I'm impaitent, 'cause I ordered the car 7 weeks ago, and there's no sign it's even been constructed yet)

And for some reason, I feel bad about getting rid of my old car. Does that make any sense?

4. Totally normal. Buyer's remorse.
Once you are in and settled and living there, you'll look back and realize what a great decision you made.

I'm jealous. The market died here so we took our house off the market and said goodbye to our dream home. :(

All the best,

Laura :toast:

5. It's kind of funny
to have buyer's remorse, without the remorse. ;) I think I'm just feeling unworthy, but damnit, we deserve this home! We've lived in a little crackerjack box for 13 years!

Thanks MrsGrumpy!

7. Awww honey, you don't feel like you deserve good things?
I understand that completely.

Change those stars. Apparently you ARE worthy of the good things coming your way. Embrace them, and say to yourself "I DESERVE THIS!!!!"

9. That's what I keep telling myself
I know I deserve this, I know my family deserves this. It's just hard to embrace abundance when so many others don't have it.

For so many years I was afraid to take this step. Then I decided enough was enough, and I was going to will this into existence. Now it seems like it was almost too easy!

Happy Happy Joy Joy! We're getting a new home!

16. Yes you do indeed deserve a lovely new home and to make SURE that
wonderful new home stays great, I have a piece of advice;

Make sure you have a "buyer's home warranty", which I'm certain you have to cover your first year. It takes care of virtually every home emergency, such as the water heater, ALL plumbing within the foundation, structural issues, heating, air conditioning, electrical and appliances. READ it. KNOW it. USE it. Don't HESITATE to use it, in fact, and most importantly, renew it and keep it every year. You can save yourselves thousands and thousands of dollars. Even add in your washer/dryer...

It's one of the most valuable tools you have. Just pray it's not American Home Shield, and if it is, ask locally how yours is doing. They usually suck, but at least you've got them. Still worth the money.

I re-piped a whole house with copper pipe using my warranty... one pipe at a time. I also had massive amounts of electrical problems solved that really helped when I sold it.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

6. It is ...
I just bought a place at the end of June and I felt the same way. Just relax and one day soon, you'll walk in, say to yourself "I'm home" and it'll all sink in.

14. I get that feeling with large purchases...like a car or home.
Like others already said, it's a bit natural. Just don't let it distract you from the joys of living in a beautiful place. Congratulations by the way...the place sounds wonderful! When you get a chance, would you please post some photos? :hi:

15. I don't still have that feeling.
Although, I did at first, that feeling has been replaced with dread and fear every time a bad storm hits. I usually end up hoping that no damage happens any time a storm comes along. It's more than a passing thought. I'd classify it as pure unadulterated fear of losing my precious little humble abode to some random horror of a storm. I can't wait until the day I have it paid off and I begin adding rooms and fortifying it and building my dream storm shelter complete with an elevator so I can move my Mesa/Boogie and my guitars downstairs with me in case of storms/nuclear war. :)

17. Until all the papers are signed and the key is in your hand
You will feel the Hand of Doom over you. The morning of my closing was the first time I craved a cigarette in almost a decade... my nerves were SHOT!!!

It's "normal"...
