why do girls bruise more easily than guys?
I notice girls often have random bruises on their arms and legs more frequently than I see them on guys. Why is that?

1. I speculate that it's because
you spend less time looking at men's legs.

7. Our blood vessels aren't quite as thick as men's
especially the capillaries, so more easily ruptured.

3. I think a lack of iron promotes bruising.
Think period... I could be totally wrong.. I'm to lazy for google, I'm babysitting twins. They are both girls, maybe I will try hitting one of them... Just kidding..

4. I agree
I think the fact that women dieting is so prevalent in our society, combined with probably more red-meat eating on the part of guys, leads to many women being iron-deficient or anemic.

But this is also total speculation on my part. I am female, don't eat enough iron, and bruise very easily.

15. I agree, a lot of young women especially are anemic
to varying degrees.

5. I'm not sure why, but I know I sure do.
Maybe it's lack of iron, but whatever it is, I've always been that way.

6. Because women have more of a tendency to get bruised...
in the first place?

Hey, what can I say? Men are generally the bashers, not the other way around.

8. I used to think I bruised very easily, then I stopped and thought about it
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 04:39 PM by haruka3_2000
I've come to the conclusion that I just do more things that could result in bruises than most people. Most of the time that I end up bruised, it hurt like fucking hell doing it, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

My shins do genuinely bruise extremely easy, but they get hurt very easily, in general, due to repeated injuries (and one spectacular injury, in which I came very close to shattering the shin bone).

However, pre-menepausal women do have a higher iron requirement than men and thinner vascular walls. Both combine to make women slightly more suspectible to bruising. It's hard to get all the iron we need without supplementation. Taking extra vitamin C and bioflavenoids also helps prevent bruising.

10. When you get old and raggity ass you bruise and never know
how it happened?? Thin everything I think. That's been my experience with life and I don't like it. But, feelin' good is worth all the other shit.

12. Yeah, all my bruises either tend to come from...
a "hey, I wonder if I could pull that off" moment or getting punched/kicked/choked/etc. As for the latter, don't worry, I'm in the martial arts, it's part of the game.

I'll probably be doing the martial arts when I'm old and raggity ass, but definitely with reduced contact.
