Is it time for another "Show us your desktop" thread yet?
Or am I just pathetically desperate to show off this
cool caterpillar I found on my porch the other day?

7. Well, you probably need someone more expert than I to explain it.
I'm using the FireFox browser...
So I just downloaded the "Grab" extension,
use that to capture the screen as a TIFF file,
open it in PhotoShop to convert it to a websized JPG file,
upload it to my PhotoBucket account,
and then Cut-N-Paste the URL into my DU post.

It's just that easy!

21. Firefox has a extension called Grab that saves webpages..
OS X has a application called Grab.app that is built into the OS that saves what is on your entire screen..

It can be found at : /Applications/Utilities/Grab.app

6. It's a nebula, way out there.
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap061018.html

Explanation: What created this huge space bubble? Blown by the wind from a star,
this tantalizing, ghostly apparition is cataloged as NGC 7635, but known simply as
The Bubble Nebula. Astronomer Eric Mouquet's striking view utilizes a long exposure
with hydrogen alpha light to reveal the intricate details of this cosmic bubble and its environment.
Although it looks delicate, the 10 light-year diameter bubble offers evidence of
violent processes at work. Seen here above and right of the Bubble's center is a bright hot star
embedded in reflecting dust. A fierce stellar wind and intense radiation from the star,
which likely has a mass 10 to 20 times that of the Sun, has blasted out the structure of glowing gas
against denser material in a surrounding molecular cloud. The intriguing Bubble Nebula lies a mere
11,000 light-years away toward the boastful constellation Cassiopeia.

15. It is
Pulse is a great video as is Delicate Sound of Thunder or Roger's In the Flesh. I'm not one of those people who wish the band would get back together - I don't really see the point. The creative energy would not be the same as when Dark Side and The Wall were made - besides, no one wants to hear new stuff. They want to hear what they know and love. And as it stands, you can go see David Gilmour when he comes to town and get some incredible Floyd and you can go see Roger and get some more. And they're all happy which I don't suppose they would be if they were travelling around together in a big, bloated "Best of" tour all the time.

I love the photo - it's from a poster and has an arthouse quality to it that's really nice.

27. What you say makes total sense...but....
I would love to see them altogether one time. The grand finale as it were, the BIG show. They looked so happy at Live Aid.
By the same token and being a long time fan, the egos are such that it is highly unlikely.
I have seen Floyd twice, 94 and 8'something...and I also caught Roger Waters way back when on the "Pros And Cons" tour....which makes your point. Together or seperate, you'll get what you want, and more!

48. That seems appropriate...
I'm thinking of changing my startup sound to "Good Morning Dave", and my shutdown sound as the song "Daisy" in HAL's voice as he's losing his mind.

I made a simple script to make my terminal say that thing. Basically its one line: echo "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." and named the script "Open the pod bay doors, HAL".

60. OK, do you have the original Windows XP install CD?
or, if it came with the computer, the OEM restore CD?

If you do, you should be able to install it from that, as one of the components to "add or remove" from Windows XP. Just look for it in the install program, it should be one of the selections, and make sure its checkmarked.

62. No, NOT Office, I'm talking about Windows XP itself...
Edited on Sun Oct-22-06 11:48 AM by Solon
there is no "trial version" of Windows XP, if you are running Windows XP, you should have the install disk. Its NOT a part of the Microsoft Office Package, its part of the Windows XP package. I don't have Microsoft office, and I have paint, as an example.

ON EDIT: OK, I'm going to try to be a little clearer, I can see where you could be confused, go in the CONTROL PANEL, and select the "Add or Remove Programs" Icon. Now, a window will pop up that is populated by ALL installed programs, ignore that. On the Left side is a series of icons, the 3rd one down says "Add or Remove Windows Components", click on it.

Windows Components Wizard will now come up. OK, "Accessories and Utilities" should already be highlighted, click on the "details" button while that is selected. A new window pops up, with two selections "Accessories" and "Games", make sure "Accessories" is selected, then hit the Details button again. Now, a new window pops up with a listing of programs on it, look at the bottom program listing, it should simply say "Paint", and checkmark the box next to it. Now, you most likely will need the Windows XP install CD to install paint, wait for the program to ask for it before you put it in.

I think it's odd also that we have the full version of Office, but it shows up on my program list as the trial version. I have full access, no time limit has ever come up but it still says 'trial' (see my reply to Solon)

If you can help me find Paint, I'd be pretty happy, because it's easy to use for the simple stuff I would use it for...

On Windows, hit the PrtScrn button, then enter you favorite painting program(paint is a good program) and select "Paste from Clipboard". Then save the resulting image in the program. Once done, go to an image hosting site, like Imageshack, and upload the picture through that, the website will give you a URL of where the image is located online. Use the plain URL here on DU and the Image will come up.

Close out of every thing but your desktop. Hit the CTRL and Print screen buttons to capture the screen. Open up a paint program like MS Paint. Hit the CTRL and V buttons to copy the screen to paint. Then save the screen to your files, download to a photobucket type account, copy the url in your post and Voila! :hi:
