You'll put your eye out with that!

<snip>A little goofing around before football practice cost one Cambria County teenager his eye, authorities said.

The two 13-year-olds were dressing for junior high school football practice at Northern Cambria Elementary-Middle School when one boy hurled a large stake at his teammate, hitting him directly in the eye.

The teen who threw the stick is now facing assault charges and school discipline. <snip>

I grew up in Cambria County. :eyes:

1. I was in junior high when hit with a shot put
My first and last venture into secondary school athletics.

I was in 9th grade, and it was during after-school practice. A 7th grade girl was messing around with an 8-pounder. She yelled "Look out!" and when I turned my head, BAM. It hit me on my right cheekbone.

I was NUMB with pain. No teeth were lost. My glases flew, and someone got them for me.

When my Mom took me to the clinic to get x-rayed and checked out, there wasn't any visible fracture. I had quite a shiner for a few weeks. For a few years afterward, very occasionally, I would feel a very slight pain in my cheekbone, like a straight thin line across it.

The doctor said that if it had hit me any higher, I would have been dead.

3. You are very right, lol
This was in 1982. I learned early that the junior high school yard just isn't the place to cheat death!

:creakybones: :hi:
