Found, on the tag of a size 4 (girl) dress, fresh from the dryer:
"Dry Clean Only."

The dress appeared no worse for the trip through the washer and dryer, but I have to wonder:
Who on EARTH would make a child's dress dry-clean only? (It appears to be a Kohl's label, so it's nothing frou-frou -- just a basic dress.)

I didn't buy the dress, but I easily could have -- I *never* check the cleaning instructions on kids' clothes before I buy (because it's always the same -- machine wash, tumble dry). Should I?

1. You really expect Kohl's kids clothing to be normal....
The triplet girl's (size 6) Easter dress from Kohl's literally fell apart at church at the first wearing on Easter Sunday this year. :eyes: She had worn it less than one hour and had not roughhoused in it.

She changed into a different dress after church and the dress was successfully exchanged for one that, to my knowledge, is still intact.

I don't like buying dry clean only clothing for myself, much less a kid.

2. I was at Northbrook Court (I know) with my parents recently and was
amazed at the $75 baby sleepers and $125 size 3T cashmere sweaters. I don't think I've ever spent that much money on a sweater for myself.

4. The triplets' rich cousins (on their father's side)....
gave the triplet girl a leather skirt for her 1st birthday. I saw her wear it once. She looked really cute, but really!!!!

They will be 6 a week from tomorrow and I have purchased normal clothing for them. And I am being a real hard ass on toys...at their mother's recommendation, I have purchased them computer software. One day they will realize that I am helping them to learn how to use the world's greatest toy. :)

And because their father's cousins tend to overload them with gifts for which there is no room in the house, this year the big party gift is to be a single book for the trio to share. My selection is "The Little Prince".

11. Leather skirt is ok
as long as it didn't come with fuzzy handcuffs and a whip.

Weirdest ever seen was in a baby store in Den Haag. Leather bassinet. That's starting them out right.

3. I always read tags/labels on clothing.
Something my mom always did and I picked up.

W/ my son, you have to be absloultely sure it can go in the washer. I have this thing about him always being clean. I'm a little OCD about that.

5. I've been noticing more dry clean only labels
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 11:55 PM by Pithlet
on stuff that I wouldn't think would need it. Sometimes if it's a more sturdy looking, unlined item of clothing I'm not especially attached to, I'll give it a go in the gentle cycle or handwash it, and then line dry it or lay it flat.

6. If I pick up clothes that need to be hand washed........
I put them into a mesh bag I have just for that purpose...

And then I lay them flat to dry on a mesh rack that my daughter gave me...

Works like a charm! And nothing has shrunk doing it this way, either!

:hi:

7. Most clothes that are labelled "dry clean only" can be washed
with proper care.

8. This freaks me out
I have no children but I have 5-year-old twin "nieces" (they're my BF's nieces by blood and we're not married but...I've been around long enough to be a default aunt, i.e., before they were born).

I cannot deal with children's clothes these days. I buy them stuffed animals and books instead.

(Was I wrong to give them an illustrated kids' edition of 'The Odyssey'? I couldn't help it! Watercolors by Alan Lee! I wanted it myself! Start 'em on the classics early, right?)

10. Was is Rayon? Rayon is a great fabric but you can't wash it. Even
cold water kinda ruins the drape of the material.
