1. I think we have better donuts than either
the Pumpkin Spice donut we got in today is amazing...goes well with our Pumpkin Spice Latte...no whip, Xtra foam, soy.

2. When I ate them, I preferred DD to KK by a wide margin. Don't eat them
anymore, and I've heard DD is pretty red.

3. Were donuts really better when I was kid or was it that I
enjoyed sugar and grease back then?

4. No...quality has definitely dropped.
I used to live for Dunkin Donuts when I was a kid. They were awesome. Now...eh. The donuts are okay. I still love sugar and grease, so it's not that. I think they got too into the coffee and let the doughy ring goodness plummet. It's no surprise that Starbucks is kicking their ass in New England, long considered to be safe territory. We have better coffee and as I said above, our donuts (all 3 varieties of em) are incredible.

5. KKs are better, but only while they're still warm.
You have to get them fresh from the shop while they're hot. Once the Krispee Kremes cool off, they're nothing special. I usually prefer local places. The best donuts I've ever had are from a small chain in Flint, Michigan called Supreme Donuts. Not really a chain as there are only two of them that I know of, at least the last time I was there. The best donuts I've had in Memphis are Gibson's

8. Well, the 'Neither' in the OP was a 'no donuts' option
The poll was flawed in that it didn't leave an option for people like you who reject KK and DD but not donuts in total. So rest easy - you will not be shot.

17. What if they are not in America, and thus don't have those two
particular foods?

ie. they were never exported because everyone else found them to greasy.

12. If you actually have regular access to Cafe Du Monde
beignet and coffee, as a professional barista...I hate you. I mean that in the nicest way possible but I do. I'm sooooooo jealous right now.

14. I'm in NO at least six times a year. That's not exactly regular access--
but I'm not complaining! (7 visits since Katrina)

20. I do have access but
I prefer a local brand called Southern Maid. This is the only company that Elvis ever made a commercial for!
http://www.southernmaiddonuts.com/

If I can't have those Krispy Kreme. I cannot abide Dunkin Donuts, too much lard.

15. Kick... and a vote for "either"
Krispy Kremes are best when warm, as somebody in this thread mentioned, but I loves me some vanilla cream and chocolate cream donuts from Dunkin' Donuts (and besides, the only Krispy Kreme in my town shut down recently :( ).

19. KK for the glazed, DD for the chocolate-filled...
...and Countryside Donuts (local to the Seattle area) for everything else.
