Stuff out, check! Paying me back...
Well, it took forever, and most of my friends, but the horrendous ex got her stuff out! :bounce:

Most of it, anyhow. She didn't get the outside chairs, but let's face it, they're behind the house, and if they're still here in the spring I can refinish them and be fine about it.

Great quote from a mutual friend who was helping: "Jesus, I can't get over how well you packed all her crap!" :D

NOW, as to the money... she said in front of everyone she would pay me back, we're supposed to talk details over dinner tomorrow night. Not something I'm thrilled about, but a nice public place is endurable. Plus, if she starts backtracking, I can say "Hey, I got dinner, didn't I?!?"

Ah... better still, she's left with a girlfriend (interestingly also my spy, should there be any conspiracy to keep me poor), and I've got hockey to watch and a party to go to. With teachers! Many of them young, single teachers! :bounce:

Thanks to all for putting up with me. After Sunday night, I've got a good feeling this will be finished.

When the bill comes, I can always excuse myself to go to the restroom and then just go home. ;)

7. now that sounds like a plan--
in truth--I am afraid you are out 3k unless you want to go to all the trouble of legalese and the infamous kangaroo system of a court that passes for justice in this great and free land of ours

but I digress--

good luck, sweetie:hug:

3. It seems like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders.
It's great to hear; now you really can move on and put her behind you.

Hope the hockey goes well...as for partying with young single teachers... ;)

I don't know if you live in Denver, but anywhere else it seems like you always run into people you know -constantly-.

9. Ever the optimist, aren't you? Ask your friends to IMMEDIATELY
go home and write a statement saying that they witnessed her PROMISING to repay the loans. Since I'm willing to put at least a quarter on the fact you aren't a check tomorrow, you will need them. Congratulations on getting rid of her stuff, though. Did she only bring a girlfriend to help her move stuff to her trailer? Or did you and your friends end up doing it for her?

10. I sat on the porch
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 05:25 PM by Robb
...with the girlfriend she brought, and just watched. She had called several of our friends as well, and it truly didn't take long (it was all nicely packed in equal-sized boxes, after all). But the ex was visibly miserable about the whole process.

There was one very good witness (a cop I'm friends with) and another even better witness. Let's hear it for Colorado, a single-party notification state on conversation recording.

I've got high hopes, a clean shed, and (finally) the last of the crap out of the mudroom. It's funny, it's looking around here like it did before she moved in, way back when. Oddly enough, I'm liking that. :)

Edited to add: In another fine moment, the cop was kind enough to run her plates and a CCIC/NCIC check with dispatch. Not that she has any warrants, but more importantly half the people in this county are on search and rescue, or volunteer fire, or just have scanners to be nosy. Nice touch, I told him I'm buying him lunch. :D

12. Huzzah! I'm proud of you!
That was TOTALLY the right thing to do -- and I'm glad she was miserable, too! (I'm not always a nice person!)

Still have a quarter on the fact she won't give you money tomorrow. I hope I'm wrong, but I think she was just "saying it" so she wouldn't look bad in front of other people, and doesn't think you will actually *DO* anything about it. Facing consequences doesn't seem to be her strong suit from what you've reported.

Congratulations on NOT moving her stuff. Did she make it into the house? :) (Please tell me you "subtle-ly" didn't let her step foot in it!)

"...we're supposed to talk details over dinner tomorrow night..."

You're buying her DINNER after the horrendous witch cheated and lied and jerked you around and still hasn't paid her debt??? Robb. Listen to me. We do NOT want to reward this type of behavior! For the love of Pete I should march right over there this very minute and smack you upside the head, boy. Honestly.

= shakes head =

Well, at least she got her stuff out.

But... dinner?!?

= sigh =

14. Congratulations
re: dinner.

Let her buy you dinner as the first step in repaying the money she owes, unless y'all work it out that she is repaying you the entire amount before the entree arrives.

Overall, you did very well. I do know this story, reasonably well - you were always strong and kind and decent for her, even dring the bad daughter parts, and you ended in the same fashion - strong, and kind and decent.

:applause:

17. That's where I'm at
I can tell DA's pissed at me about the dinner thing, but it's important to me. By the time the entree arrives, things will be resolved -- at least for me.

And yeah, it's the decent thing. While on most levels I want her to fail miserably at everything she tries for the rest of her life, part of me wants her to work her problems out. And that part knows that if I continue -- to use the phrase you do, which I like -- to be strong, kind and decent, it may stick with her that people can be that way.

It's a longshot, of course. More likely she'll destroy herself in the next six months. But I want to be able, as I can now, to look in the mirror and know I've done things right.

As mad as I've been, I've never acted out and gotten down in the mud. I could've, hell I still could. There's some great mud down there, things I could do that would be ruinous for her. But I haven't, and I'm not going to.

In the end, I'm the guy I have to live with. And I refuse to have any more crappy roommates. ;)

18. Hey, I'm not pissed at you.

Imagine me saying it to you in that exasperated voice a protective sister who thinks you're the greatest guy in the world and doesn't ever want to see you get taken advantage of like that again would use.

'Kay?

Now hug me or I'll snap you with my wet dish towel, ya knucklehead.
