The University of Minnesota football team should NOT be celebrating...
They are a terrible team, with a terrible coach and they just BARELY managed to beat a Division I AA football team on a blocked field goal attempt.

Instead of jumpting around like they just won the frickin' Big 10 championship they should probably just sulk away into the locker room and contemplate how close they just came to unprecedented embarassment. They didn't deserve to win that game.

Rant over. Sorry.

1. They are an awful football team
That is the first thing that I said also. They should have smoked them by at least 30 points if they think that they are a big time football team, and can compete in the Big Ten.

2. Who'd they just beat?
And in principle, I agree - no 1-A team should do any sort of exaggerated victory dance over a 1-AA win, especially when the margin of victory is less than 20 points or so. (Of course, I'm a bit touchy, since my current school is 1-AA.)

3. They just beat North Dakota State...

And actually, they are NEW to D-I football. They made the transition from D-II 3 or 4 years ago. The "unofficial offshore" spread for the game was 26 points or something like that and the media in Minnesota could not THINK of the Gophers, despite their struggles, even letting this game get close to the spread. After all, they're a Big-10 football team. The competition isn't even comparable. Well, they damn near lost the game. If they hadn't blocked a field goal with 1 second on the clock, they would have.

What's most pitiful is that they were outplayed in every aspect. They were beaten up front. They were beaten on the line. They were beaten through the air. If NDSU hadn't turned the ball over twice at inopportune times they would have won easily.

What's worse is that during one of the UM coach's interview after the game, he refused to give NDSU any credit saying that it wasn't what THEY (NDSU) did as much as what the UM DIDN'T do. What a load of shit.

If the media wants to know why NDSU almost beat them it's becuase they have better coaching and because many of the players had a chip on their shoulder. MANY of the NDSU players are from the Minneapolis area. They were snubbed by the U of M and opted to play for a close alternative. They had something to prove and they did.

NDSU's players DESERVED to win that game and it pissed me off to no end to see that piece of crap UM team dance around after beating them. Screw the Gophers. I now not only refuse to root for them ever again, I'm going to root AGAINST them from now on.

Again, sorry for the rant. I'm biased. I'm a North Dakota boy. Things like this kind of irk me. They shouldn't. It's irrational. But they do.

P.S. Their hockey team sucks too. Go Sioux.

4. I think I would have reacted the same way you did
There are time for a big celebration, and times when it's unwarranted. Barely beating an underdog is a time for humility.

I don't like hearing that NDSU is good, however: our Mustangs are heading that way in a few weeks, and we've got two tough games right before NDSU. (Not to mention we just threw away a huge lead against South Dakota State - don't want to get swept by the Dakotas! :))

5. Which team are you talking about?
I'm actually a UND alum and couldn't stand the Bison when I was in college. But right now the Bison and Sioux are in two different divisions of football (the Sioux won't be moving to DI for another year or two) so I can cheer for them for now.

7. That's a rough schedule.
Good luck to them. I don't really follow the level of College Football, but isn't Montana always good too?

12. If Wisconsin can beat them by 30+........
Ohio State might set the modern-era single game scoring record.

They are absolutly TERRIBLE.

14. Glen Mason cannot beat good teams........
Even though they did, SOMEHOW, manage to beat Michigan last year. Still not sure how that happened. After all, I think they got beat by Indiana for God's sake.

9. Not unprecedented
Montana State took out Colorado, the home team to boot, earlier this season.

13. I watched the highlights of that one.
That must have been pretty sweet for Montana State.

Colorado is about as bad as Minnesota is.
