Anyone own or have driven a Pontiac Vibe?
We want to rent an Escape, but a Vibe is all that Avis offers, and Avis has the best deal I can find for a weeklong rental in LA

Is it more like an SUV or more like and Outback? It's really hard to tell from the Vibe website.

1. Same vehicle as the Toyota Matrix.
Sorta small station-wagon-like thing.

4. Damn! We really love the Escape for a vacation rental
We're both 6' tall, and S.O. doesn't know the meaning of "packing light" -- the Escape offered good gas mileage, LOTS of head-and-shoulder room, and wonderful well-designed space in the back for luggage.

If we didn't live in the inner-burbs, where even a small SUV is totally unnecessary, we'd buy one for our next vehicle.

Looks like we'll be looking somewhere other than Avis...

5. You could always buy the hybrid Escape.
That should alleviate any guilt about it.

6. I think this is a rental situation.
I believe the Escape is unavailable via Avis.

7. Yeah, Hertz offers the Escape, but I'm not a member
and the rates are far higher.

9. My company has a deal with Hertz. Lower rates, free #1 club gold.
I'm using them when I go to LA.

8. It's something we'll consider when our car dies
But in this case, we just want to rent for our week in L.A & our drive up to Paso Robles.

2. I've never driven one, but I would guess by looking at them that
they are probably more car-like than SUV-ish. Edmunds.com probably has the kind of information you're looking for.

3. It's more SUV-y and less gay than an Outback, but it's still not really

an SUV. It's more of like a car.
