Who feels embarrassed by their family? |
|
I have to admit, I do sometimes. Well, with certain people.
My Dad has pretty bad table manners. I mean, don't inhale your food or swear underneath your breath because somebody doesn't pass you the butter fast enough. :eyes:
Gawd. Learn some patience.

3. Consistently by people on my mom's side. |
|
I shall provide an example:
My grandmother (mother's side) once said to my cousin Sean (dad's side), at a family dinner, "Sean, you're a very handsome man, but you should stay out of the sun, because you look black when you tan." His mother, who is half Native American/half black, was sitting right next to him. Fortunately, everyone knows not to be shocked by anything that comes out of my grandmother's mouth and Sean is a stand-up comic and he actually has a routine in which he makes fun of racism towards his heritage ("I'm half Irish, quarter black, quarter Native American, so basically everyone hates me for one reason or another.")

4. I can honestly say I was never embarrassed by my parents. |
|
They were wonderful. Of course, as a teen, I probably felt differently.
Now my FIL, whoo boy. When he passed in May, I was able to tell my friends that my home was once again a grope free zone.
He tried my patience, that's for sure.

5. I love them, but can be picky......... |

sometimes I feel a tad embarrassed for my Mom, who is very gracious and well-mannered. My Dad seems like a fish out of water out in public, it seems. Maybe it's anxiety, I don't know.

I'm sorry, that really sucks to have to be around someone like that. Yuck. My family is like that, with the men being pervs and the women pretending to be blind, deaf, and dumb and not protecting their children. I'm pretty sure that's why my generation, all my cousins and siblings, are childless save a couple. Some are just starting to have kids now, in their late thirties and forties. It's so hard to deal with that kind of thing.

embarrasses me constantly. She's loud and vulgar, and doesn't give a damn who knows it. She likes to wear dresses and will pull it up to show you she's not wearing underwear. She can shotgun a beer better and faster than any frat boy and I guarantee she can drink any frat boy under the table too. She's always the first one to the buffet, often shoving her way in line to get seconds before everyone has gotten their first helpings. She will even knock kids out of the way (literally). She says EVERY thought she has. No matter the time, no matter the place. She makes the most offensive comments and then goes "What? What did I say?"
I love her though. Every crude little bone in her body. I don't know what I'd do without her.

Dad is quite the character but is a yellow-dog democrat so I can forgive him most anything. :) My BIL is creepy repub who made racist jokes at my kids wedding last week. Ugh. But the real embarrassment starts with my in-laws, they are the biggest bunch of hee-haws I have ever seen.:silly:

Did that last weekend, don't want to do that again for awhile. Table manners aren't the best, and will not leave the poor waitress alone so she can wait on her other tables. He has to carry on a detailed conversation with everyone he meets. I felt sorry for the poor woman, and I think my stepmom was getting a little irritated with him as well. Oh well, he's old, so I guess I just have to be patient.

...My husband smacks his food, which drives me NUTS. :yoiks: Last night, he was working on a cough drop---but could he let the damn thing dissolve in his mouth quietly??? NO, OF COURSE NOT!!! :grr: He had to rattle that thing over his teeth repeatedly and smack it very loudly, especially when he tried to ask me a question. :yoiks: I've tried many times to tell him what it sounds like on the other end, but he just doesn't get it. When we go out to eat, it can be very loud too.
My dad has a tendency to talk to anyone, which is fine in most situations but can be uncomfortable when he tries to talk to someone who's just not interested. And to make things worse, Dad usually tells the same old worn-out corny jokes to whomever it is he's talking to.
My brother is a drama queen, and he has the art of making scenes in public down to a science. :yoiks: I don't play that game, so if he tries it on me, he gets stone cold silence.
