What would you do if ghosts were messing with you?
I would get the fuck out ASAP.
I hate the show, but can't stop watching.

1. I like it better than Travel Channel's "Most Haunted" but
not nearly as much as SCIFI Channel's "Ghost Hunters".

Everyone on "A Haunting" seems to always do something that's guarateed to piss off the ghosts/entities/whathaveyous. Or maybe it's just that I have no life...:D

3. I've watched it
Ghosts don't bother me, since we have them around here. It's a cultural stereotype that we should be afraid of ghosts. Most of the time, they mind their own business and go their own way.

Probably because I grew up with a mean one. But I don't like the idea of any of them, actually.

What kinds have you had/seen?

6. Ghosts Around Here
I live in a carriage house on an old, historic estate back in a mountain. In addition to my house, which was converted to a regular house some 50 years ago, there is a big old mansion, completely renovated and now in beautiful condition. The mansion has two ghosts--domestic help from some time when they were employed there.

One is a tall, thin man who wears black. The other is a mousy, small, very shy woman who wears a traditional maid's dress. She often hides in the folds of the draperies and peaks out.

I've seen the tall, thin man. One time I saw him in a snowstorm and he was carrying a shovel. The shovel was bent and wavy on the edges.

The plumbers who worked on the mansion reported numerous incidents of the ghosts playing tricks on them and saying, "Go away!" For example, a door slammed one in the butt while he was working. This door had previously been unable to be moved because of the way the basement floor had settled. The plumbers, who work regularly on the plumbing of the old mansions in this area, say they see ghosts all the time and it doesn't even phase them. There's something about the ghosts and the connection to water.

Not long ago, DU-ers here helped me see my cat, who was showing up as a ghost in pictures I took on my digital camera. My cat, who passed away of a heart attack on August 10 of this year, showed up for about 10 days in almost every photo I took--even ones when I was at school, photographing work going on in the classroom. Having her around as a ghost taught me that ghosts are not necessarily malicious.

10. Oh, they're already posted
Go take a look at this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=245&topic_id=26593

I daresay, it has to be one of the most interesting "developmental" threads ever. In it, I post a pic that I don't understand. I ask for help from my fellow posters in interpreting. You will note that one poster, Cleita, sees a face but doesn't quite interpret it at that moment. She comes back hours later and announces that she sees a cat. That got the whole thing started. There are many other pics on the thread from the series of photos I took. Unfortunately, it looks like one of the posters who so graciously contributed deleted some pics off the server. I will email her and ask if she still has them in her files. Still, there are plenty of pics on that thread to examine.

If at first you don't see what we're talking about, keep reading on the thread. We post outlines and other enhancements that will help.

I am very intrigued by OhioBlues' suggestion that digital media makes it easier for ghosts to come through. It is my hope to investigate that in the future.

I had another cat pass away in an accident back in 2002. She sent me various messages but none that were captured on digital media (which I didn't even try to catch back at that time). That's why I'm really interested in checking into this hypothesis.

Oh, and BTW, there are at least a dozen or more photos I got of my cat that are not posted on the previously aforementioned thread. I'll post them one of these days when I'm not so short on time.

8. There ya go, bein reasonable
:hi: Most spirit pretty innocuous. Some can be caring. If one gets pushy, just push back and tell it to knock it off, it isn't behaving like a good neighbor.

There are few that are really malevolent. Save your fear for the bad among the living. THEY do the real damage in our lives ;)

And, Happy Halloween, All Saints Day, All Souls Day... enjoy the time of thin veils.

5. I watch that show.
I think they only show examples of the most extreme type of hauntings for entertainment value. I'm not sure if they're really trying to scare people, but some of the episodes are quite creepy.

7. I would rather have ghosts in the house than cockroaches
or termites. Unless they were ghosts that ate wood or something.

I watched that show "Ghost Hunters" the other day, and one dude had something called an "EMF Detector"...man, I bet that thing would go right off the scale if that one song was playing...or even just that commercial for Kraft cheese: "Woah...you're unbelievable!"
