What is the best time of the year to visit Ireland?
We want to go to Ireland, but hopefully when the chance of rain is at its lowest, and when it's least crowded. Any suggestions?
Thanks

1. I've only been in the summer
when it was crowded, cloudy and relatively warm. Or it rained and was cold. Or it rained and was warm. My aunt and uncle went in the spring and found that it was fairly free of American tourists but cold and rainy. I understand from collegues who are Irish that now that Ireland is part of the EU, many Europeans like to visit all year round. They go for the food. You might think about September however.

2. I have been there once in February and another time in March.
I didn't see any rain in those months. And it definitely was not crowded as it was still a bit cold for tourists. The daytime temperatures are fairly comfortable if you like cold (which I do), but it dropped to below freezing at night.

5. I'd say September or May
Summer is an oxymoron. If you like it light until 10PM May is nice, and before the crowds. There is always rain in Ireland unless it's a fluke. I had one of those when I was in Donegal in August and it was hot! 70! BUT it was a record wet in the south.

9. You're welcome...
Enjoy, and buy your tickets early. September is still considered high season (that's airline lingo for expensive). You might sign-up to receive emails, from your favorite airlines, so you'll be informed whenever Europe goes on sale. Also, you'll want to check the web, periodically, for any sales. Introductory offers (when a new airlines starts up service) can be especially good deals.

Have fun! :hi:
