Poll question: What's your work policy on internet usage?
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 07:12 PM by L A Woman
I have pretty much free reign at work when it comes to the internet. Obviously there are sites I should avoid, although none are blocked. But I am looking for a new job and just wondering what it's like out there, typically. I always get my work done, but I sure like to check my e-mail and DU a few times throughout the day!!!

On edit: If you could add the type/size of company you work for, that would add some insight! Thanks!

1. We're an IT company and everyone is an expert w/admin priviledges.
So filters would tend to not work here.

4. No internet for most. Some restricted internet for a few with
valid work requirements. One internet unrestricted connection in every department/division under the full control of a high muckity muck with a special password and locking office.

8. We have full Internet access ...

We're just not supposed to use it except for work-related purposes. The problem is that pretty much anything sensible can be justified as "work related" because we do a lot of demonstrations for customers and look up stuff for those customers as well.

9. Limited Access
My employer blocks porn, gaming, and hate sites. I think they do this with key words so it doesn't always work out well. For instance, if one wanted to find information about breast cancer, such sites might be blocked because of the word "breast". Not a very intelligent system, but what can you expect from the government?

10. No internet...
... and really it's probably for the better. There are rooms on each floor where there is an "open" computer where you can do research or whatever.

If I had access to the internet I'm not sure I could resist temptation. I'm ok with the way it is :)

12. I'm stunned.
I can't believe that you expect an employer to pay you while you are taking the time to check your personal E-mail and fuck around on DU.
