approx 17,000 children starve every day, so they don't live to procreate

as explained by my zoology professor:

for each species, there exists a exponential curve. It skyrockets, until a limiting factor(s) is met, and then continues on in a sine wave(ish) fashion. This drives the natural selection of the species. (the ones that survive have variant traits that are selected for)

humans are 3/4 of the way up.

the scary thing is, like all other organisms, humans will hit multiple limiting factors, and we will be heavily selected for/against

7. Still, the 17,000 that starve

are among the 150,000 that die. The total population increases by 50,000 every day. I can't help wondering if AIDS, drug-resistant bacteria, mysterious incurable diseases, and possibly our own bloodthirsty behavior are Nature's way of restoring balance.

9. Why of course it is

It is arrogance to think that humans have conquered nature. Far from it - we are utterly dependent on nature for everything. Diseases are simply one of the consequences of increasing population. (Wars too, I dare say). It will only get worse until the tide turns and the population starts depleting. It's gonna be ugly, that's for sure.

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but, if babies kept being born and no one died, that would be a lousy arrangement.
I asked mom about this at age 10 or so, and she said pretty much what I'm telling you today.
