Know what I'd like to do with the Rheem gas furnace we have?

Yes, that's right -- but it's too big to stick it up there... and it's only eight years old.

The damned gas furnace has a broken "induction blower" after we spent more than $800 on the main system blower on 9/30/06. The newest broken part will probably cost even more. We feel like the couple in the movie, "The Money Pit."

Rheem is not the wonderful company we thought it was! But the good news is we didn't die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

We had emergency service after 9 PM.

Just the end of a beautiful vacation.

Radio_Lady here -- just flew in from Orlando. Send me some happy morning messages if you can. Thanks -- I appreciate it.

Naw, I won't. Are you still doing it?

The furnace is a pain and a problem still today -- but we have gas fireplaces to keep us warm (and how about that love?).

Besides that, while on vacation, my husband broke a tooth, and I have to have two bonded fillings on a couple of my teeth. OK, so we have to pay the dentist and the heating group -- let's hope November will be better.

Thanks for the wave! (I just knew I'd be up at 7 AM EASTERN TIME now that we're back on PACIFIC TIME. 4:06 AM...)

GOOD MORNING EAST COASTERS!

2. Ow!! You paid about double for that service.
I am a little bit confused though. Furnaces rarely have more than one blower. The ones that due have a forced air exhaust line rather than a simple straight shot up through the roof.

It's very, very strange to have both blowers go out in such a short period. You either have electrical problems on that circuit or you're getting reamed by an unethical contracter. Given your willingness to pay for a late night service call I'd say the later.

Sounds like somebody needs to make a boat payment.

5. We're on their yearly service plan, so we won't pay for late service.

I'll pass your comments on to my husband, Porcupine. Thanks for your response.

7. UPDATE: I called the Rheem consumer department in Arkansas
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 12:33 PM by Radio_Lady
early this morning.

A woman named Patty was on her desk at 9:00 AM in Customer Relations. My description of the problem was a little better than what I posted last night. She said that the clog between the pressure sensor and the inducer was responsible for the furnace turning off.

The microcrack in the inducer housing assembly is not a problem and the housing assembly does NOT need to be replaced. There is no chance that carbon monoxide will escape there.

She gave me the name and telephone number of their parts and equipment company and their technical support person in Tacoma, Washington. The furnace repair people haven't called us this morning, but when they do, I plan to complain that visits on 9/30/06 (complete check-up of the system), 10/02/06 (replacing the fan blower and resetting the system) and 10/25/06 (the FIRST TIME we tried to start up the furnace) do NOT warrant any extra charges.

If they complain, we will seek our another dealer in this area and we will take our business there.

Robeson and others, thanks for your advice. We're up and running this morning and my husband plans to use some epoxy on the microcrack to do this repair.
