I have changed my avatar to a big ole queer pink triangle
Due to the current unpleasantness, I feel the need to proclaim an intrinsic and normal part of myself to any and all posters and lurkers.

Hugs, kisses, and thanks to all straight DUers who have recently changed their avatars to gay-themed images. I love you all.

9. Ah, okay.
You see, I have a straight friend who had a rainbow sticker on her subaru (most lesbian car ever) and had no clue it was a gay thing. She just liked it. Once I explained it, she was like, "oh...well, that would explain why random women wave to me when I'm driving."

18. After that, I used to fuck with her over that all the time.
We worked together and I used to stick a rainbow button on her jacket or bag and see how long it would take her to notice. Sometimes it'd be a few days. Then, invariably the button would go whizzing past my head and she'd call me a "jackass," but say she loved me anyway.

22. My ex-gf's mom likes to tell me the story about the time she accidentally
went on a date with a woman. She apparently had been recently divorced and had headed the committee at the Unitarian Church to create a "womyn's space." Anyway, a bunch of her friends were (and are) lesbians. She went out to dinner with one and she said it became clear halfway through that the woman thought they were on a date. Once it was cleared up that she was straight and thought it was a friendly thing, things were okay though. In the defense of the lesbian, my ex-gf's mom seems like she should be a dyke, but she's into men.

Now she's married to a guy who seems like he should be gay with his impecible fashion sense and perfectly slim body. I always joke that they're the gayest straight couple I know.

29. Something similar happened to my father, brother and uncle when
they went to my other uncle's memorial service. My (surviving) uncle was a lt. col. in the Air Force. After the memorial service there was a lunch. The majority of my uncle's friends were gay. In the pictures that they took it appears that my father, my brother and my uncle had paired off, each with one of my uncle's friends. We had so much fun teasing my AF uncle that he actually became fearful of the photograph finding its way into the wrong CO's hands.

who bought a used car from someone and it was covered in rainbow stickers, etc.

the guy my friend bought the car from offered to help remove them before purchase.

my friend declined the offer. he is hetero, btw. he frankly didn't care if people thought he was Gay. Like your friend, he received a lot of waves.

Meaning "people regain their sanity" of course. The thread you pointed out stunned me when I saw who the poster was...and the fact that it has K&R's on it.

I changed my avatar last summer because, thanks to people like you, it has become apparent equal rights is just a term not something people are willing to work for. I've got your back. Plus, the avatar messes with people's minds. I like messing with people's minds.

At least we have equal rights here. Not the marriage yet, but the equal partnership, which means you can live with your same sex partner and be protected through insurances and stuff equally. The next fight is the right for adopting; but we're on it and we'll win it, because we already made it an issue worth fighting for - not waiting for the 'time to come' to chime in when the clock gets stuck. There's no way around it. It might take some time to achieve the ultimate goal, but hey, we're the ones setting the clock at least. It will not fall in our hands out of mysterious clouds ...

Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 08:37 AM by RetroLounge
and if this state votes in favor of the ballot initiative adding a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and domestic partnerships om Nov 7th, I will never use that avatar again, and I will renounce my Wisconsin citizenship (can one do that?) and go back to saying I am not from here, I am from Chicago (which is the truth).

So rock-on New Jersey!
