Poll question: Tricks / Mischief |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 10:17 AM by redqueen
Halloween is fast approaching. It's pretty much the one night reserved for acceptable use of mischief and pranks. Pranks between friends is one thing... but I was just reading that story matcom posted about the kid's pumpkins getting stolen and smashed and it made me think about people and the differing amount of respect they have for other people's property.
When I was growing up, I never did stuff like that. Most of my friends did. It always shocked me. That golden rule stuff sank in deep with me. Am I a weirdo? Did most of you get up to mischief for fun? I always felt bad for the victim when my friends did stuff like that. I always wondered how they felt when they discovered whatever crap was done to their stuff.
I hope my kids grow up like me. A little TP or snipped clothes lines on Halloween, that much I can accept. Anything else (again, barring pranks between friends) I pretty much don't understand at all, and can't accept as anything but just plain wrong.

1. Hallowe'en was fun and a little scary |

but not wicked or evil. It was all about the candy, really. And our parents let us have supper with the lights out and candles. Made the night special for us little ones.
btw, great avatar--have you lost weight?

Sure...a few little tricks from time to time but way, way, way back I think the adults used to enjoy seeing all the kids come to their doors as much as we liked to visit them. You could go around without your parents and word about the "good houses" spread up and down the streets quickly as we'd pass by others who'd tell us and we'd pass the word on to others. It's so sad that future generations, with the exception of a few neighborhoods will enjoy Halloween the way we did.
One time I got a rock like Charlie Brown used to get and kept that rock for almost four years until it got lost in a move.
