Shoes - why the hell do we women do it
Ugh!

I love these shoes - they make my feet look smaller than what they actually are (I'm size 11) and they match great with so many outfits including my jeans.

They're these awesome pair of Michael Kors clogs with 3.5inch heels - they look absolutely marvelous but they're killing my poor toes. But I'll still find at least one outfit a week to wear them

Why do we do it

I buy cute chunky shoes at Ross. I'm not about to break an ankle with silly shoes.

2. I used to do stuff like that, but I'm all about comfort now.
I don't wear heels higher than 2.5 inches. If a shoe hurts my feet, I stop wearing it. I don't have bunions, corns, hammertoes, or anything else that comes from wearing ill-fitting shoes, so I must be doing something right.

On the other hand, I have a lot of shoes (although not much compared to some women I know, lol!), but I wear them all at one time or another.

Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 09:37 AM by LostinVA
With the occasional foray into Eastland stuff.

You silly straight women...

on edit: I do have "real" shoes for funerals, weddings, job interviews, etc.... I do dress up and get semi-girly on those occasions. Of course, the shoes are what we used to call "ballerinas" -- no heels.

It's funny, I haven't thought for quite some time about how similar dancing slippers are to the ones I wear in kung fu.

Heels are right out for me, and I'm usually straight. Come to think of it, I know more guys who wear heels than wimmin. Hrmph.

10. I don't wear heels
I'm more of a flats person. I love boots, but none of em have much more than a 1-2 inch heel, if that.

My tai chi teacher who's a chiropractor fusses about women wearing heels all the time. He can't understand why women want to ruin their feet. I've been listening to him complain about this for 15 years....

I admit it - I am short, and when I wear heels I'm taller and they make my legs look longer. I don't buy the assertion that we do it for men; they just look better. I do trend towards thick heels cause they don't hurt as much and I won't squish my feet in the ones with really pointed toes.

I have shoes similar to this one that I just love:

becaues I only wear flats, I found the cutest pair of shoes I've ever seen. They were flats with style! I wore them once, then my dog ate one. Is this a sign from above or what?

27. I remember a friend
Who was so freaked out by her brother in law, who, after bedding down his 9 children, said "Janis doesn't need to be chasing a career, even if she graduated in the top 3 of her law school class, so I keep her pregnant in the summer and barefoot in the winter", with her younger sister beaming adoringly at him, that she went out and bought 16 pairs of shoes just to put under her bed.

28. I find shoes an annoyance
I wear them only because I have to. I don't own many, because I find few comfortable and stylish. I can't wait to get home, toss them off and walk around barefoot.

I don't like runners, but do love sandals in our (all too brief) summer.

30. I have a couple of really hot but uncomfortable shoes.
I wear them when I need to dress up and want to look hot. Actually, the fuck-me boots aren't too uncomfortable, but the stilettos get pretty uncomfortable.

Much like Lost, I usually wear Doc Martens, sneakers, and flip-flops, though.

31. 3.5 inch heels
How tall does that make you?

I doubt if men care how good your shoes look, except for the small percentage that have foot fetishes. Except I had a woman tell me once that high heels put women's bodies into a 'fu$% me' pose. I am not sure how that works, but I think it is more about the heel than it is about the toe, or how cute the shoe looks. A guy told me way back that he thinks women dress up to impress other women, not to impress guys.

34. men like heels
they lengthen the leg, enhance the buttocks.

you don't have to be a fetishist to appreciate it. just straight.

36. that's not the heel or the shoe
it's the pose - 'enhance the buttocks'. So a pair of shoes with the same heel, even if it wasn't 'totally cute' and didn't pinch the toes, would have the same effect. And the straight man wouldn't be noticing the shoe - he'd be noticing the other factors.

32. To look men in the eye?
At least that is the reported reason why the Queen of France wanted a pair of heels. She wanted a pair of shoes like the men of the French Court were wearing at the time.

37. I dunno, but every once in a while I catch myself doing it, too
Wearing a pair of shoes that hurt my feet, just because I love 'em for one reason or another. Then I get home, start rubbing my toes and wonder what the HELL was I thinking and swear never again.

Until the next time.

46. Uncomfortable shoes are as oppressive as the burkha
Women have over nine times as many foot problems compared to men mainly for that reason. They are impractical and limit a woman's physical abilities. For this reason, I do not wear shoes with a significant heel.
