Has anyone seen "Marie Antoinette"?
The new Sofia Coppola film.

It looks good.

Wondering if you've seen it and what you thought.

Thanks

1. I wasn't thinking it looks very good.
I know Kiersten Dunst has said it's a film about feelings over historical accuracy, and that may be true, but I prefer historical films to be accurate to the time they're portraying. I have a hard time concentrating when they're not because I find the soundtrack and modern language distracting. To be fair, I hate soundtracks. I prefer film scores.

Report back if you like it and perhaps I will give it a shot.

4. Would you PM me your opinion of it?
I loved the book, I always like Clint's movies, and all three actors have gotten major kudos.

And, just let me say this: I'm sooooo glad to see a Native American/First Nation actor in movie who isn't Graham Greene... although I love him!

3. I like that it opens with Gang of Four's "Natural's Not in It."
I'm looking forward to seeing it.

9. I read a review that praised it highly...
And I've always thought Marie, while guilty of gross ignorance, was most likely a good-hearted person who was not truly to blame for her situation.

But somehow, I have a difficult time picturing the French Queen bustling about to hip-hop music. I know that may seem narrow-minded. I may go see it just to find out if I'll bust a gut laughing when that scene is presented.

11. I think Coppola always puts an interesting spin on things...
Hey Goddess. How are ya?

are the kids psyched about Halloween?

My son finally picked a costume today - a far cry from his obsession just a year or two ago. Last year he went as Elton JOhn. This year, it's a cowboy. Personally, I think he just wanted the guns that went with the badge and hat....

12. My youngest talked about being a cowboy...
So I started surfing the net for some ideas. Then he saw a "zomby doctor" costume that he fell in love with. It didn't cost any more than we would have spent making a cowboy costume, so I went ahead and ordered it. Is it ever creepy! Here's a pic: http://ec3.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000HYUR02.01-

I have a feeling the mask won't stay on through the entire evening...

10. yep-
Sofia seems to have a talent for the grand, sweeping landscapes, and setting a tone for the following scenes with said landscapes. Very well shot, incredible wardrobe and sets, so-so to great music, and decent acting, with a few standout moments for the lead actors.

I think the editing ran a little long, the movie could have been twenty minutes shorter. But she can really set a mood well...it's a beautiful and sometimes haunting movie. I felt I came to understand in an emotional way, how Marie ended up as she did.
