Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe Split...
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 04:19 PM by Divameow77
"Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated after seven years of marriage, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," a rep for the couple said in a statement released Monday. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time." TMZ.com first reported the couple's split."

1. I've been waiting for that for a couple years now
I'd read that he was more than a bit jealous of her career... although I think he's done very well for himself, and been in some great movies.

Too bad. They both seem pretty decent.

3. Too bad they couldn't make it play. But a dual performing career family
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 04:36 PM by Radio_Lady
is quite hard to maintain. (They did look so cute together at the awards ceremonies.)

There are those BIG egos, plus all the difficulties of travel and schedules. I used to fantasize about marrying someone in communications, but when I did, it turned sour in just nine years.

Now I'm married to Mr. Solid Citizen, an engineer, for the past 33 years. I'm glad I passed up the philandering tomcats I used to work with -- names are changed to protect the innocent.

I hope these young people find happiness in other relationships. I did...!!!

In peace,

Radio_Lady

They're not married, but have been "partnered" for at least 15 years (IIRC) and have a couple kids.

4. I was so sad when Hilary & Chad broke up and now these two
Hilary Swank and Reese Witherspoon seem like some of the more level-headed actresses in Hollywood. I admire both of them and the movies they have done

16. I must confess...
I have a fondness for celebrities who don't turn themselves into tabloid fodder for the sake of publicity.

Rarely does the news of another Hollywood divorce affect me; but this time it does. I hope they can make peace with each other and end their marriage civilly. And I hope they find lasting relationships.

She sounds like the name of an ice cream/peanut butter confectionary.

He sounds like a race car driver, going around in circles really fast for no reason.

9. I think its sad
They seemed to have the Hollywood marrieage thing figured out. They were both very open about being in therapy, and not because anything was wrong but to keep the relationship healthy. They also took turns doing movies so they both weren't away from their kids for too long at the same time, they seemed pretty sensible to me.

13. This is another one of the ones that hit me harder than it should for some
reason.

:(

I really liked them as a couple... she appears really level headed. I remember her giving an interview and saying that their kids were going to have to learn to make it on their own. That nothing would be handed out... that living in a shoebox in college and paying their own way would be a rude awakening for them, but that's what she was going to make them do. No free rides.

18. was he not totally gay in "Cruel Intentions"?
I've never heard anyone else say they picked up on it, but man, that's all I can think about when I watch that movie. I wonder if he's gonna switch teams now.

I really hate this, cause they were so cute together. But I think they just got married a little too young.

I felt sorry for her and hated her all at the same time. That's a great example of writing and acting coming together to create a near perfect character.

25. I agree
that movie is so underrated. It's Broderick's character's story, what she represents to him about his own failures in life, and he portrayed that really well. She does a great job of playing this girl, I knew so many like her when I was growing up.

Usually I don't give a flying flip about celebrities and their neverending get togethers and split ups, but I really do like these two. A lot. I pretty much own all of the movies these two have made. With Freeway being Reese's best (seriously if you haven't seen Freeway you NEED to) and Gosford Park being my fav my with Ryan in it. Although, he had a smaller part in it.

They've got gorgegous kids, and I trust that those kids will be okay inspite of this.

Hmm... I wonder if Reese has thought about playing for the other team. I have no problem being the rebound.

34. evil gossip-mongering
I heard from a friend who works in movies that, when he was working on a film Phillipe was in last year here in town, he and the actor ended up spending a few nights at another guy who was working on the film's house. Apparently Phillipe had the same girl over every night, for the whole night - and it wasn't his wife. However, he was one of the least egotistical, nicest actors my friend has worked with.

He's too pretty to be decent. Sad but true. WHY do people get married at age 21?!?!?!
