The farting co-worker...
OK, today was his first day- he is a contractor helping us out for 2 weeks. This is an IT dept, all male except for me. The guy very noisily farted while walking from one room to the next- just lets it loose, a whole string of farts. No apology or embarrassment from the farter, none whatsoever.

The men who were standing closest to him started quietly laughing, farter's back was turned so he didn't even notice. Do men feel freer to fart in front of each other when a woman isn't around?

Nobody said anything. There was a lingering smell...

If I did something like that in front of my co-workers I don't think I'd ever come back to work again.

Later that day the guy said he was sick of doing contract work, but no one ever seems interested in hiring him.

Gee, should somebody tell him?

1. I've got a farting co-worker too
He works in a 2-person office that's bigger than the boss' office, but nobody lingers for long in there. x(

5. In the office, one should nhold one's gas until they can get to the bathroom.
Once in the bathroom, one may let fly. Even hallways are largely fart-free zones.

Farting openly in an office in front of a mixed group is not only rude, it's a cry to be let go. I think the Contract computer pooter's supervisor should be made aware of just how boldly this cretin "goes", and the super should call up the contract employer and make arrangements for a new droid. Immediately.

6. And if one slips up and it happens, apologize.
I heard that Bush does this as a show of power- he can do anything. This guy just doesn't have a clue that its rude.

7. Okay--what about this?
We had an attorney who just transferred into our area. My colleague was co-trying a case with him and came back and said that new guy was farting in court. Eventually we concluded that this had to be nervous farting. Whaddya do? Get the office manager to order a case of Beano?

10. Why ask me? Ask the attorney.
What I mean is, unless you are some headcase, you know if you have a problem with nervous tootage. So, for the sake of your career, you seek solutions. Or a muffler.

8. Sometimes people pass gas uncontrollably.
Don't completely judge them on that basis. It is very rare. ;)

11. In bicycle racing uncontrollable flatulence is good for an extra MPH or two.
Plus it keeps the pack back.

9. That boy that I'm doing my robotics project with farts a lot too.

I don't hear it, but my nose detects it. I always hate it when he says he wants Chinese food. My first thought is, Oh no, those smell the worst. I'm just glad he stays away from chicken for the most part.

As far as men farting, some men do fart loud and proud. Some are even worse. Back when I was in Dragonfly, the lead singer would fart and use his hand to wave it toward his then girlfriend/now wife. He tried that with me once. I told him to give it up. He was an amateur. He didn't want to get me started. I could eat chicken and clear the whole house. I told him I wouldn't think twice either. He never tried that with me again.

Just hope the guy you work with doesn't eat deer meat. It'll smell even worse. Those are toxic farts.

14. Fart Rights....
We farters of America have long been denied our basic human right to let ... One ... Go ....

Why does the Democratic Party insist on relegating us to the back of the bus....
