1. Oh, I imagine I might be in a hospital for some last few seconds. |
|
They should let me off of work for that.

I hope to get this transcription certificate thing finished and then do that for a while. I already have carpal tunnel but typing doesn't seem to irritate it too much as some other things; I know I can do it for awhile but not forever. In my 50's I want to start taking criminal justice courses so I can work as some sort of private investigator, or at least for one, since I am so damn nosy I think I would be a natural at it.

I love what I do and feel privileged that I get to do it. It's like Bob Dylan says, explaining why he continues writing songs and performing when he doesn't really have to: "I do it because I can and because I'm good at it."

6. I have been a Jack of trades at so many things that I will have....... |
|
keep working so I can figure out if it possible to be more than just proficient at any of them. Every time I get going good at something something else sucks me into another diversion.
And besides it's better to just keep busy living

which I call semi-retired.

But now that SS may be a shadow of what it would have been, or even nonexistent by the time I retire, it looks like I may have to. I have a 401K but while I'm putting 10% of my gross income (and it's very gross indeed) into it and currently getting a return of about 10% each year I don't see it carrying me very far come old age.

You beat me. It will be three years ago this November 23 that I retired at age 54. I was very lucky and also worked real hard to get there - maybe too hard. I'm now nursing long term stress and a sleeping disorder but I've managed to avoid medication for about a year now.
I worry about the younger folks now. I certainly didn't get a free ride but at least I had a chance. Now pensions, healthcare, job security, and decent salaries are getting more rare all the time. We need to work to revive traditional Democratic economic values.

12. Not going to have a choice |

unless I make a ton of money somehow. Even then, I wouldn't want to just sit around every day doing nothing. Not for long, anyway. :P

14. There should be an option that says HELLS no. |
|
Money or not, I'm stopping work at age 55 or 60 and traveling my ass off. I'm not spending my golden years behind a damned desk working for someone else.

15. Like the vast majority of the population, I guess I have to. I really have no choice. |
|
:) I am, however, aiming for retirement between 65 and 70. I still have a long way to go before then, but there you go. :P

As soon as my youngest is out of school, I'm done! Of course she is only 8, so there is a ways to go yet.
Buying a boat and my wife and I are off.

Fortunately, as a translator, I can keep working as long as my brain holds out.

18. Probably, but simply because I love my "job." |
|
Not the stay at home mom part. While I love that, I don't consider it my job. And I am anticipating a time when these responsibilities will be a thing of the past. I'll make a fantastic grandma! ;)
I'm also a minister. They'll have to pry my wrinkled dead hands from the pulpit.

I used to say I'll quit as soon as I write the Great American Novel, but then I realized that someone already wrote The Grewat Gatsby 80 years ago. So now I'm pretty much screwed.
