Midlo expounds on the beauty that is Halloween.

I just saw that Halloween spending will top $5 billion this year and I think this is why. Halloween doesn't come with any strings attached. Spouses don't have to debate where to spend Halloween Eve, or the day of Halloween, or even where to await the Great Pumpkin.

It's a no guilt holiday. No worrying about the perfect gift to buy and whether or not you shot your budget. No worrying about whether or not the recipients will love the gift. No guilt. All you have to do is hand out mini-snickers bars and everyone is happy.

Thus ends Midlo's early morning rumination. Carry on.

It's the first romantic holiday after a long stretch with not a lot going on.

I'm using "romantic" in the 19th-century sense. Halloween has a lot of "aura" and symbolism that can be melded in a lot of different directions depending on one's mood and inclinations.
