Hello from Washington DC - saw the Supremes in action today |
|
It was something I've always wanted to do - hear an oral argument before the nine Justices. The case was a Florida one concerning the death penalty, but I didn't understand any of it - WAY over my head. The formality and security was all there, but in the one hour I was there, seven of the nine peppered both attorneys with questions. The two silent ones - "Coke-Can" Thomas (not unexpected) and Justice Scalito (who looked like he was falling asleep - he sure blinked a lot).
The weather was again perfect - I'm having good luck with it so far. Hope y'all have a good Halloween and don't gorge on the candy (tooth decay and all that)!!:toast:

2. Yes - it's part of the fun at the Supreme Court |

One gets to stand in one of two lines - in one line you hope to get a seat to hear a full hour's arguments, the other line they rotate you through in five-minute blocks - I guess for a lot of people they just want to see it for a few minutes then leave.
Lots of law students of course go into the "full hour" line. I enjoyed it though I didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
