Anyone elses kid get bible tracts with the candy?
My daughter, 5 yrs old, got one.

And last year (though not this year for some odd reason...) one lady had her light off but had signs in the yard saying it was satan's holiday and she was not home and was instead at church. I imagine people took advantage of her telling them she was not home...

1. For the freaking love of Mike.
Halloween is the one day on earth that kids get to spit in the face of things that go bump in the night. I have no patience for those that don't understand that.

2. My fundie sister does not allow her kids to T&T, and she puts up no decorations
Even though my mom ALWAYS had the most decorated house in the whole hood (out of 87 homes here).

She feels that what the holiday stands for is evil, yet her two boys play doom 3 and the like all the time.

Sheesh.

5. I got one once and I was in HS.
She didn't like it when I responded with, "what the hell? I thought everyone on this block was Jewish."

Seriously, the area was about 80% Jewish, so it was really bizarre getting a chick tract. I mean, imagine living in a place where you think almost all the neighbors are going to hell.

7. Nah, they always just handed out candy.
One year, the reformed rabbi gave out a little dreidle with the candy though. He's a pretty cool guy actually. He drives around during Hannukah with a giant Menorah on his car, with the stereo pumping out tunes like "Herman the Hannukah Candle."

The Menorah Mobile is kind of like a town fixture.

14. Haruka, are you in the 'burgh?
There's a guy here in Pittsburgh who drives around with a giant menorah on top of his car.

18. Almost everyone in my HS went trick-or-treating all through HS.
The only exceptions generally being kids whose parents wouldn't let them go in HS.

21. That's interesting
I know that when I was in high school, no one went. Most kids stopped by the age of 12 or 13 maybe. But I was talking to a friend of mine last night and she said her daughter (17) and her daughter's b/f (19) were going out.

Maybe it is just a difference of generations.

19. I had some high schoolers come around.
I actually don't mind it, as long as they are polite (which they were).

What boggled my mind were the dads who brought their infants to the door (in costume) along with a bag for their candy!

I mean, I know parents like to show off their babies, and they were cute and all, but do they really expect me to believe that the babies are going to eat the candy? :silly:

Maybe I should have some zwieback or pacifiers on hand for the tiniest trick-or-treaters.

9. One elderly neighbor used to give pennies...
apparently unaware that it's not 1945 anymore.

We had a dentist on the same block who gave toothbrushes.

But my parents refused to move...
