Hey, I just won a pair of tix to see Leo Kottke, guitarist extraordinaire, tomorrow nite! |
|
:bounce: I won them about an hour ago as I was driving the kids to school.
It was a totally spontaneous decision to call into a local radio station's contest from my cell phone, but I just had a real clear feeling I would win. It was weird, I followed my intuition and it worked!
They were giving out two pairs, to callers #5 and #7, and I was caller #5! :woohoo:
Today is my Lucky Day! Maybe I should go play the lottery.... :D
What cool things have YOU won in the past????

Is he playing down in Santa Cruz?
I don't win things because I don't usually enter contests, but I do follow my intuitions AND believe in luck.

Really, a pygmy octopus, in a 20 gallon marine aquarium-- which is not trivial to maintain.
It had about a seven inch tentacle-span, although it seldom showed it-- most of the time it hung out on one of the aquarium walls with its tentacles curled up. The non-tentacle part of it was slightly larger than your big toe, and roughly the same shape. It ate one goldfish every day.
It was because of a promotion for the Jefferson Starship album Red Octopus, from which you may recall the hit song "Miracles." The title, in addition to being an ironic nod to John Birch Society style propaganda, had to do with the fact that octopi really do turn red when they eat. The octopus, with its life-support system, was the prize in a drawing. I suspect I won because nobody else wanted it.

They told me these critters have a lifespan of about a year, and it was already six months old at the time. It lasted maybe four months. I probably let some electrolite get out of balance in the water :-( I'm not good with aquatic life forms.
BTW, have a good time at Kottke!

Saw him in concert a few years back. The man is a real wonder! You will love it! Yes, play the lottery...you can't win if you don't play
'course you know, I won a fully loaded minivan back in 2000 :D
Have also won a cookbook from Campbell's for a recipe submission, a Coney island Hot Dog and Bun steamer for something...can't remember..was back in the '70s, and won for 4 numbers on CA Lotto, but had to share with a lot of other people, so only got about $99.
PS Swelling of knee area has reduced considerably. Am ambulatory, have no more slipping of tibia, and am moving along OK. Seems it is just a contusion, and am feeling only a little stiffness today and no pain. Icing for 24 hours straight really helped. I was pretty worried for a while there when it ballooned up and turned yellow green within minutes after the fall.

6. Wow, you are a lucky woman, too! |

Yeah, that mini van is waaay cool. Reading of all the things you won reminded me of that cute movie a couple years back with Julianne Moore, based on a true story of a mother of 6 kids who entered and won all these jingle contests, back in the 50's. I think it's called "The Prize Winner of ..." something, something. Sorry, can't remember, but you should definitely check it out, if you haven't already seen it. It's a real feel-good, uplifting movie. I loved it.
Anyway, glad to hear your knee is on the mend. Thank goodness. Keep taking good care.
xoxoxo! :loveya:

8. Oh! Just remembered...also won a radio contest back in 1988. |
|
Was a caller in for entry, and I was selected at the end of the contest.
I won two days for two at Lake Tahoe North SHore Biltmore Hotel, and a lot of other extra "gimmes" such as pizza, and other local Reno area reatailer products and services, including having a dozen red roses in a beautiful cobalt vase delivered to my home.
I didn't have a bf at the time, so took a good friend with me. We went up the hill (as it is called when driving up to Tahoe from Reno/Carson City area) in her Corvette, and partied from sunset to dawn the first night. The second day we just were mellow, not quite hungover, and enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and the lake :)

9. He's quite a player. I stumbled upon him one Saturday when |
|
he was doing an in-store appearance at a record store.
I ended up standing there mezmerized for about an hour.
Have a great time.

I also saw Leo Kottke play once in Pittsburgh, must have been 1978 or 79. He was great!
