Neil Patrick Harris Says He Is Gay

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: November 3, 2006

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.

''(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest,'' Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent ''speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.''

Harris stars on the CBS comedy ''How I Met Your Mother.'' He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series ''Doogie Howser, M.D.

4. Funny thing is that he is supposed to be a kind of womanizer
on the show and I kid you not that my "gaydar" was going off because it just wasn't believable to me for him to be hitting on women. I can't tell you why, but I just felt like something was off.

6. I can understand why he did it, but my feeling about it is that "private
lives" are precisely that. I don't CARE one way or the other, except for the hypocrites, like foley and haggard, etc.

it is absolutely disgusting that in the 21st century, a person's private life, particularly one who is NOT on the public payroll, is of issue to anyone else. I was actually asked, in a rather shocked tone of voice, during a conversation about gays, "well, don't you care who they're sleeping with?" my response, "as long as it isn't anyone I'm sleeping with, NO!! Just like I don't care who YOU are sleeping with, either" that pretty much concluded the conversation.

Knowledge of someone's heterosexuality is rampant in this country. Why shouldn't homosexuality be just as public?

54. Aw, I Thought "Starship Troopers" Was Great

And I started wondering about Harris' sexual preferences because of the dashing way he came off in those SS-style uniforms in that movie.

Seriously though, more power to him for his unapologetic announcement. Just one more sign that the Repubs can't rely on gay hatred as a reliable weapon anymore......

I really do like that flick. My wife and kids can't stand it; they refer to it as "The Bug Movie," as in "Oh, God, Dad's watching that freaking Bug Movie again."

As I remember, the movie really did cause something of a stir when it first came out, what with all those good looking kids striving to be "Citizens," i.e., spaceship-travelling storm troopers. There's no denying that the director, Paul Verhoeven, has real talent. He also did "RoboCop" and the best flick Arnold S. ever appeared in as far as I'm concerned, "Total Recall."

....are Robert Heinlein purists, who don't think the movie conveyed enough of the book's pro-fascist sentiments. Not the kind of people you want to spend much time with.

Again, congrats to Neal Patrick Harris for handling things in such a forthright, admirable manner.

13. On Will & Grace, he played a guy who ran a Christian "we can turn you straight" group.
His character was heartbroken that the supposed former gays in the group, whom he thought he was turning straight, were treating the group as a gay pick-up joint. At the end, his character gives in and goes off to take a shower with Jack MacFarland. Great role.

And props to Neil for his honesty. I've always liked him. The couple of times I've watched "How I Met Your Mother," I've gotten a kick out of his character. "Suit up!"

Idiots. That's who.

If we lived in a free country, nobody would have to "announce" their sexual preference to anyone.

I don't give a shit, Mr. Harris. I wish our country wasn't full of idiots who are fascinated by this and judge you by it.

21. So not fair!
Regardless what you seem to think (and it's fairy plain what that is) for someone "famous" to come out of the closet gives some people the opportunity to look and say, "Hey, if he's OK maybe I am, too".

I care not a whit about celebrities. In my job I deal with them all the time. But if this gives even a glimmer of hope to a teenager, or anyone, that there's nothing wrong with being gay then I'm all for it.

I care that a person can't bring his date to a public event because his sexuality is looked down on. I care that a person has to let people assume he's straight in order to live a normal life. I care that a public figure is brave enough to try to pave teh way for greater acceptance of differences in America by revealing his differences.

Why don't you care?

I'm not dating anyone right now, and there are days I 'forget' I'm bisexual for spaces of time due to the need to just let people assume I'm perfectly 100% straight.

ET's harping on her makes me sick. They should all get a life and keep her out of mine. I woke up from a nap this evening and she was on. who are young, openly gay males, I'm talking high school age, and when someone like this comes out it means a great deal to them. Further, I have one for whom the reluctance of one particular athlete to come 'out of the closet' seems to be personally very disappointing and disillusioning for him. Also, I really, really love the way he framed his announcement too, it sounds very brave and strong, and I admire him for that. I had absolutely no idea he was gay, unlike others who, like Dan Renzi said, are so gay they 'sweat glitter', so this was a very pleasant surprise.

44. The wording of his statement leads me to believe it wasn't entirely voluntary.
The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent ''speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.''

Sounds to me like a tabloid was about to "out" him, and he cut them off by outing himself. Not as though most people are going to care one way or another, or that anybody should. Which is why I can't imagine how a tabloid thought that this would sell copies, but then that would require the whore media to think.
