. . . Use Mozilla Firefox and get the Cooliris add-on. You can preview original posts just by placing your cursor over the heading. A smaller window opens up so that you can see what is in the post without clicking.

I find myself constantly - and accidentally - putting people on ignore with cooliris.
It's also great for hiding threads quickly - you don't have to go through the bullshit of clicking the hide button, going to some other useless and unneccessary page telling you that you've hid a thread, and then having to click your way back to the forum you were in.
Of course, this also means that cooliris is great for accidentally hiding threads quickly.

Too much trouble.
We're currently using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and doing quite well.
