Is there anyone else who is not speaking to family
because of politics? I am so disgusted with my sister for saying that she could never vote for a democrat because Kerry disgraced the troops, then wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain to her what really happened. That was the final straw....I'm just so disgusted with her that I can't bear to have a relationship with her. She is a very mean spirited person anyway. I feel bad because I love her children, but I would understand if they were angry at me for being so angry at their mom. I have already told the rest of the family - all die hard republicans - not to expect me for the holidays.

2. I've learned not to discuss politics with my family...
sometimes we agree, but it's not worth an argument.

4. I wish that I could agree
but it's too late for us. I just don't have any respect for her anymore. She is so rude and obnoxious about it.

3. My grandfather is a little misguided
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 08:23 AM by mduffy31
because all he watches, or rather listens too because he is legally blind, is EWTN. He was talking to me about MO amendment re stem cell research. He was totally wrong because of the info that he got from them, but he is my grandfather, he is 89 years old in an assisted living facility. I just let it go, he isn't harming anyone because he doesn't leave his room except to eat.

I made my cousin cry because of Kerry during the last presidential election because I challenged him to give me one good reason why he was voting for Bush. He couldn't except that "Kerry made fun of my dad!" Now I was with his brother who I am closer to and he just laughed at him because it is a bullshit reason. He is such a moran, he hates "libruls" and "librul" programs, but he doesn't have a pot to piss in nor window to throw out of so he relies on liburl programs to raise his family. I have tried to make him get him to not talk to me, but alas it hasn't worked.

On edit: For all you trolls, moron and liberal are intentionally spelled wrong, not that you could really tell.

5. Yes
You are right to let it go with him. I let it go with my dad who is 72 yo. But my sister is very aggressive about her political opinions. She is the typical Ann Coulter like bully.

6. It is not worth it
My grandfather is a wonderful man, he has done more for me and the members of my family that I am tearing up just thinking about it. He is a staunch Catholic, but he did vote democratic all his life. He is harmless, unless he is preaching to the old ladies at the home he isn't doing damage. Now if my brother was the way that you have described your sister, I probably would do the same as you.

10. Same here.
My dad is in his late 80s, no chance I'm going to change his mind so I don't go there at all. One brother is married to a hateful freeper-type; I don't communicate with them much any more. Other brother is a little more open-minded, but we pretty much avoid politics altogether.

8. I tried making amends with my sister, but she's pissed at me
coz I voted for Kerry...AND....she lives in Canada....AND....she's born again.

I feel bad for you, but I think there are a lot of us out there who have been torn apart by George the Uniter.

9. This is a very sad thread.
I'm sorry for all of you.
