She thought I was Gramma.
After dropping my daughter off at school this morning, I went to the polling place with my son (he's almost five). When I got to the front of the line and gave my name, the volunteer smiled and said, "Oh! A helper!" She leaned over toward my son and said, "Are you going to help Gramma?"

I didn't get much sleep over the weekend while my husband was out of town, but good grief. I didn't think I looked THAT tired!

Then, while I was voting, some guy in line poked another guy in line and said, "You're voting Democrat, right?" The other guy said, "Oh, yeah. Democrat!" and then they both had a good laugh, as if voting Democrat were the most ridiculous thing they'd ever heard of.

Hardy har har.

12. Thanks, Oregonian.
I'm still trying to decide which of those two occurrences made me feel worse.

2. What is wrong with people?
NEVER assume relationships. Ever.

NEVER assume pregnancy. Ever.

My SO has twice made the mistake of congratulating people on their impending parenthood who were NOT expecting. I have made him write the above on his mental chalkboard a hundred times each. :banghead:

11. Exactly. And it's not like I was especially old when he was born.
I was 35.

3. At least the volunteer didn't say "Are you going to help Grandpa?"!

6. Wow, LIW
You don't look old enough to be a grandma!

Then again, if it was a repuke, she might have been a grandma 3x over by the time she was 40...;-)

9. I suppose that technically I *am* old enough to be a Gramma....
given that I have a 19-year-old daughter.

But I'm NOT a Gramma. And I didn't think I looked old enough that it could be easily assumed that I'm the gramma of someone my son's age.

Yikes.

15. My sister was a grandmother
at 36. (I also have a 55 year old friend with a 9 year old son...it's rare that anyone thinks she's the mom...)

That's happened to me before, though.

And let them have their little joke. They'll be eating crow by the end of the day.
