Barbaro's Cast Is Off!!!
A ray of sun for this horse lover on this gloomy Illinois fall day...yesterday evening, doctors at the U of Penn. New Bolton Center took off Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro's hard cast.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/news/story?id=2651939

While he's far from out of the woods, this is BIG. Making it this far, he has already defied the odds. Sometimes it's not the horse who has the fastest legs, it's the one with the biggest heart that wins.

I hope chief surgeon Dr. Dean Richardson kept that cast and signed it...it belongs in the Throughbread Racing Hall of Fame

9. He's got a lot of metal in that leg, and the bone has to harden up and
get denser. But this is a very good sign. I suspect he'll be fine in the long run, and sire many great foals.

And from today's update on Tim Woolley's site:

Michael had heard from Dr. Richardson. Michael also visited Barbaro last night after racing at Delaware. He was happy with how Barbaro was handling his new legware. There was certainly an upbeat mood as we walked to the track.

When I saw a clip of him this AM, I started to cry. Starting to now thinking about it! I really believe that all of our wishes for his recovery made a difference.
