I voted! Very unusual this time. |

I live in Chicago and in the precinct I live in, you were given a choice...
1) Touch screen. Hell no
or
2) You were given a large paper ballot (the thing looked like a menu) with a list of candidates on both sides....and a pen. You were then instructed to fill in the arrows next to the candidate of your choice. I'd never seen this kind of voting before. In 2004, it was a punch ballot. The 2nd alertnative was time consuming but...it was vastly better than the touch screen.
Also on the ballot...a resolution urging the United States to begin an immediate pullout of troops from Iraq. That was great voting for that.

1. That's the kind of paper ballot I got |
|
Only I got bubbles instead of arrows.
We didn't get a pullout resolution, though. I would've loved that.

2. In Canada we have little boxes where you mark an X next to each candidate. |

3. It sounds like the type of ballot in my county |
|
You use the pen to connect two halves of an arrow, right? And then you run it through the scanner and (in my county at least) then the paper ballot drops into the lockbox that the scanner sits on top of.

9. I personally feel very comfortable with this type of voting tech |
|
as the ballots are paper and verifiable. YMMV.

4. I didn't have a choice |

And only two out of the five machines were working. I wish we would have had that resolution on our ballot, that right there would have made it all worth while.
Did you vote for old Elvis or new Elvis?

But, hell — I was just glad they had paper ballots.
I went all prepared for them not to. Had my digital audio recorder clipped to my shirt and my cell phone at the ready, and a copy of the memo from the secretary of state to county clerks telling them to have an adequate supply.
It was almost a let-down. x(

Easy to read, nothing hanging, no screens to touch. I like them.

where I live, we had paper today.
Long list of boxes to fill in with a Sharpie marker. Pop the ballot into the scanner and it drops into the box.
I was happy not to have to mess with a touch-screen.
