Rabrrrrrr's lament on the Republican need to destroy
Republicans have such a wide, wide world of the web in which to visit, chat, console, rant, whatever with each other. And yet, for whatever reason - and I can only assume it's that inherent genetically errant need to destroy (that is, act as Satan) instead of create (that is, act like God) - they instead come here to DU and cause a ruckus, disrupt, and otherwise make things difficult for us here. Which, while I can understand the visceral joy of fucking up someone else's fun, the truth is that the fucking up is temporary, evanescent, and ultimately inconsequential.

So, they manage to help take DU to critical status level 11-9R or whatever the hell it is, but to what end? They aren't gonna take us down; they aren't gonna stop us from talking; they aren't going to affect the elections or anything else.

All it is is petty vandalism on the level of spray painting someone's store front, except without at least the creative imagination of the graffiti artwork.

I don't get it -

But I suppose if I did "get" this need to destroy, I would understand the war in Iraq, the war against homosexuality, the war against minorities, the war against the poor... well, hell, let's put it this way: I'd understand why everything they do has to be couched in the words of war. Even their sports. And, sadly, even so much of their "Christian" theology/imagery.

I hope someday we'll come to understand/show that Republicanism is merely a brain defect, a mental disease, caused by a chemical imbalance or immature brain structure, and that a pilll or treatment or something will be invented.

8. Thanks, Robb!
Sometimes I am, indeed, thoughtful, and not just ranty.

3. They aren't really doing all that much, in the context of this site.
I don't think they are making things difficult for us at all. Indeed, the people that come here to disrupt are almost entirely of the caveman faction of GOP voters - the ones that can barely spell, let alone deal with a nuanced position like "no WMDs in I-rack, even but Prez sed their wer".

5. I posted a thread the other day about a study
suggesting politics were genetically determined. Maybe I'll dust it off and give it another look.

9. Was it the "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition" article?
Fascinating read from the PSychological Bulletin, 2003, Vol. 129, No. 3, pp. 339-375.

If not that one, then absolutely, you must post the one you are talking about so that I can read that as well.

14. Was that the study out of UC Berkeley back in March?
Remember the whiny, insecure kid in nursery school, the one who always thought everyone was out to get him, and was always running to the teacher with complaints? Chances are he grew up to be a conservative.

At least, he did if he was one of 95 kids from the Berkeley area that social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years. The confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grew up to be liberals.

The study from the Journal of Research Into Personality isn't going to make the UC Berkeley professor who published it any friends on the right. Similar conclusions a few years ago from another academic saw him excoriated on right-wing blogs, and even led to a Congressional investigation into his research funding.

7. At least you didn't go to a technical college. So you can read the post, anyway.
Community College Moran.

What'd you study, Braniac - ceramics?

Oops, sorry, I used a hyphen. That's probably beyond your CC ken.

13. Don't you mean to say "I think about the Bay City Rollers
and I touch myself while looking at their pictures in my textbook and wishing I could have been in the audience in their Saturday morning kid's show throwing my panties and room key to them but I'm not sure it matters"?
