No Christmas decorations???
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 08:43 AM by underpants
My wife and I commented after spending some time last weekend at the Mall (a rather upscale one) that we haven't seen any Christmas decorations. I don't think this is because of the "War on Christmas" :eyes: but maybe because people were disgusted at seeing them before Thanksgiving???

I have a theory that from what I saw the stores seem to be trying to create a Thanksgiving shopping season for clothes with orange and brown (the "in" color this year from what I have seen) and maroon --as well as for kitchen items.

I don't know but it seems to me that we usually see Christmas stuff going up the day after Halloween.

Anyone? Any thoughts on this?

Oh I almost forgot

1. they've been up here since before halloween
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 10:06 AM by AllegroRondo
some stores even had clearance sales on halloween stuff before halloween.

I figure if it keeps up, we'll eventually celebrate halloween in mid August, push the 'back to school' sales to May, leaving the entire September-January months for Christmas.

5. I watched them shove the Halloween candy aside to make room
for the Christmas candy. Last year they were putting out Valentine's Day hearts on Dec 26!

8. I think Nordstrom's has a policy against it.
A friend of mine told me that Nordstrom's publicly announced that they only celebrate one holiday at a time, so nothing Christmas-oriented goes up until after Thanksgiving.

However, I have already seen a tiny Christmas tree at the Giant pharmacy, and the drugstores and the Giant grocery have their Christmas merchandise out, though not decorations. It was actually worse last year at the Giant, as they had one of those enormous inflatable globes with a Santa figure in it set up in the large aisle devoted to seasonal items.

And one of our local radio stations is notorious for playing Christmas music ALL THROUGH NOVEMBER. :banghead: I love Christmas music, but none of it should be played until Advent (the four Sundays prior to Christmas).

I am already seeing Christmas-oriented ads on TV. :grr: Just when the nasty political campaign commercials are pulled, they start doing this to us.

9. The mall dept. stores in my NE GA city had Christmas decorations up a month ago.
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 01:22 PM by CottonBear
They ran right over Halloween and have totally kicked Thanksgiving to the curb in the mad capitalist rush toward Christmas. The Belk had fully decorated Christmas trees. The Publix grocery stores have Christmas stuff all out at the front of the stores. There is no fall season any longer. It's the end of summer, back to school and then straight on to Christmas.
:( I hate it.

In Germany, they don't do Christmas until the beginning of December, then all of the Christmas markets spring up in the squares and streets of the cities and they celebrate through January 6. I once spent a week in Munich before Christmas and it was absolutely lovely and magical especially the Christmas market in the Marienplatz (old town square)! Hot spiced wine, snow and 15th century buildings not to mention moonlight walks (while drinking hot spiced wine) around the lake in the English Gardens to watch the swans swim and see the lovely snow covered evergreen trees! It was like being in a fairy tale!

Living Tradition - History of Munich's Christmas Market

Munich’s Christmas Market, or Christkindlmarkt, is almost as old as the world-famous local breweries. Originally called the Nicholas Market, the festive tradition dates back to the 14th century. The town’s annals first mention Christmas activity near the Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) in 1642. “Oberammergau goods, Nuremberg Lebkuchen (ginger bread), cotton childrens-wear, crib figurines, and chimney sweepers made from plum and almonds” were among the wide range of exciting products on display. In 1806 the Nicholas Market altered its name and it wasn’t until 1972 - after several changes of address - that the Munich Christmas Market found its final home in the city centre.

10. It's too damn early for Christmas. Where are the Thanksgiving decorations?!?
Thanksgiving, a very important holiday ( to give thanks- be grateful)
always gets dissed and buried under all the Christmas stuff.

I make a point of putting up my Thanksgiving decorations early.

Thanksgiving is the next big holiday.

Christmas will have to wait.

14. Right around Labor Day, I posted on here
That I was amazed that everywhere I went, it was already decorated for Christmas - I went into a Lowe's, and they had a whole section of Christmas trees and other XMas paraphanalia.

Then, I later went to a local shopping mall where some of the anchor dept stores were already had all their XMas stuff out.

This was Labor Day, mind you!
