Poll question: Do you make a living doing something you love to do?
I've always thought my real calling in life is to be a musician, and I've always had something going on in my life to keep that dream alive...but after twenty years of doing this and still having to work a "day job", I think I probably need to admit to myself that the chances of "making it" in music are pretty slim. That's ok, I still play (I can't help it, I love it...even if I'm still not what you would call technically proficient after all this time), but barring some unforeseen, miraculous major label interest, I don't expect I'll ever make any money at it.

Anyway, as I sit here, stuck in this stupid office on a very nice day, I was just wondering if it was common to think of one's main source of income as just a "day job"...it's common among the people I know IRL, since a lot of them are in the same situation as me, but what about you?

1. I really enjoy what I do
but the company I work for is one of the worse companies ever.

They took away our pension and failed to tell us until a week ago and now we have to pick out new insurance package and its sucks big time. The rates have gone up the coverage has gone down.

 :(

2. Yes, but it's still work. Even when you love it, it's still work and it can still wear you out.

3. I have a love/hate relationship with my job
Sometimes it can be very rewarding. Other times it blows chunks. I'm a truck driver and I teach new recruits how to drive. We don't do that in a classroom. Our classroom is the nation's highways. There's a lot to my job . Some people think it's easy. "How hard can driving for a living be?" Oh, but it IS a challenge. I'd need a very long essay to describe the duties of the job to you and then I'd need a month to show you the ropes out on the road. After that most driver's take a year aquainting themselves with the many aspects of the job. That's what I love about my job.

What I hate is when things go wrong. Right now I'm sitting in a hotel because my truck is broke down. I've been here 2 days and will likely be here 3. I'm only making $40 a day breakdown pay right now. That's what I hate about my job.

4. Yes, thank God!!
It's the only way to live. Do what you love. I'm earning about half of what I earned before, but wow - life is much better.

5. Yeah, I reckon.
I get to work with unhappy customers to try to repair their Internet access. I usually manage to turn those frowns upside down. It's pretty cool.
