the interview was a week ago. Help! |
|
I thought it went well, they said they hoped to make a decision by Tuesday. What do I say when I call them today? I know one of the hiring team (she gave me the head's up on the opening)and it seems unlikely to me that even if they went with another candidate she wouldn't give me the courtesy of a call. She's really very nice with terrific business sense. It's a very small office. What do I say???? Thanks in advance.

send an email if you can. Express your continued interest in the job and remind them of your strengths. Ask for an update on the search.
Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK! :)

3. an email wouldn't work quite right. |

I was interviewed by all three of the women I would be working with. The first interview went well, I sent a nice Escher art card thank you, which was favorably commented on at the second interview. The second interview started off with the question they had all agreed on: "do people tell you that you remind them of Joan Cusack?" and continued rather comfortably from there. They were hoping I would tell them that I really was Joan so I could introduce them to John.

4. That sounds like a good compromise to me. |

It may get the information you want without the discomfort of a personal confrontation if the news is bad. HAng in there; sometimes all decisions have to wait until Joe comes back from vacation and gives final approval.

7. Start by noting your interest in the position again |
|
Then just say you were wondering how their decision making is progressing.
On the chance they tell you what you don't want to hear (fingers crossed for you that they don't), take that opportunity to thank them for their consideration, that you hope they keep you in mind for future opportunities and ask what you could have done to improve your chances.
You have to make the call - it helps keep you in their thoughts and, if handled well, reflects well on you. Take a deep breath and "just do it". (I hate doing it myself but have learned to just suck it up. :) )
There is a really good chance they are just taking their time - maybe they already had other interviews set up, maybe they are trying to work out the finances, maybe they are trying to get budget approvals... I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!
