I didn't get the job.
I was the front runner but when their HR person spoke to the woman that was the manager that laid me off last Spring, she apparently gave rather chilly non-answers. Like when asked if I was re-hireable she said that she couldn't answer. damn. so their HR person said to go with #2. very disappointed now. shit, it would have been such a good deal.

5. thanks, that's sweet of you to say

Mr. Jc is kind of pissed and trying to figure out if there's some way I can go back after that previous employer. Doubtful, but fun to think about.

15. Freelance gig
For a couple months. I was supposed to go until October 24 but they extended it until today. Oh well, back to hustling.Sending resumes. Making phone calls. It's been almost 2 years since I had a full-time job.

16. freelance sounds terrifying
on the other hand, general unemployment is pretty sucky. You'll hook up a good one soon, whatever it is that you do. And then something with benefits.......

17. Freelance writing
Advertising. Not by choice--I'd prefer a full time job. Shitty field right now. Especially in Detroit. You do whatever it takes to pay the bills.

It would help if I felt like I had any marketable skills. God knows the bachelor's in fashion design isn't getting me anywhere. I would make a kick ass admistrative assistant. thanks for the hug.

21. I'm really sorry to hear that.

Just out of curiosity - did they just randomly call this manager who din't give you a glowing recommendation? I hope you weren't using her as a reference. If so, obviously, you know now not to.

If they randomly called her, you should be able to identify with hiring managers people you do not want them to call.

To be honest, I can't believe they told you that and I REALLY can't believe your old manager told them that. Most companies today wouldn't do such a thing due to liabilities it can create for them.

I'm not sure what you can do at this point. That really sucks and I'm sorry.

22. Well, you might want to seek legal advice about that...
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 05:22 PM by KC2
...unless you did something pretty bad at your former job, I don't think they can say you are not re-hireable. I'm certainly not a labor attorney (or, any attorney for that matter ;-)). Good luck checking into that...don't let a former employer prevent you from moving on!

Hang in there...something is bound to turn up...probably when you least expect it! :pals:

23. Name rank and serial number is basically all they want to impart nowadays
Apparently they're afraid of getting sued by the new employers if they state that the hiree was great at their previous job and then turns out not to be so at the new job.
It sucks, especially if you were really good at your last job, but I was told this by the HR at my last job - all she was willing to say about any old employee is when they were hired and when they left.
