Why are they called 'Christmas Trees'?
It's a pagan idea.

Why, for Christmas, don't people put big piles of hay in the living room instead of the tree; and put a Cabbage Patch Doll(tm) in the middle of it?

16. Black Peter isn't racist - he's traditional.
btw xmas trees are originally a German tradition popularised by Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert.

Originally in english-speaking countries we had a Yule log and greenery like holly, ivy & mistletoe. Goose was the traditional xmas dish.

2. Why is is called "Christmas"...
and not "the Feast of the Unconquered Sun" or "Saturnalia"? Christianity absorbed a lot of pagan ideas.

7. Okay, I have to tell this story...
One day a group of us were sitting around talking religion. Mix of Christians and non-Christians discussing the origins of Easter beliefs. One of the non-Christians asked the question, "Is there anything original in Christianity?" One of the Christians responded, "Sure there is! We're the only religion to convert a torture device into personal jewelry."

I will never ever forget that!

9. I think this is meant to be funny, but I can already tell
by some responses that this could turn ugly. Plus hasn't this been done to death anyway?

13. I do regret forgetting to put in the sarcasm tag...
:(

And i do know 'the reason for the season', but given the non-sequitur of the concept of the Tree...

Also, if this topic had been discussed before I apologize.

12. They should be called Solstice Trees since....
the tradition of bringing a live tree into the house on the darkest day of the year (symbolizing the continuation of life even in the dead of winter) is one of the many pagan Solstice rituals commandeered by the Church to help convert those who practiced the old traditions.

15. Why is anything considered Christian?
Christianity has few original ideas to its name, IMHO. Same for Islam and Judaism.
