I hurt our kitten yesterday....NOT INTENTIONAL!
Dot, our littlest kitten, has a habit of exploring. If we open the refrigerator he is there jumping in to check it out.

Well, yesterday I was baking something in the oven and opened the door to turn the pan and Dot jumped on the oven door. I freaked and knocked him off much harder than I expected. He's not talking to me today but I think that's better than the alternative. He doesn't seem to have suffered any damage to his feet and I think his pride is more hurt than anything else.

1. just give him lots of TLC...
...and some kitty treats.

Once I sat on my beloved old cat. I had stood up from my chair and didn't know that he had jumped on it. I sat back down on him. His feelings were more hurt than he was, but he literally would have nothing to do with me for a couple of weeks. He got over it, though.

3. I did that to Sapphocrats...
...kitty once. The kitty forgave me, but I dunno if Sappho has yet or not. ;) She likes to remind me about the noise the cat made as I sat down, from time to time.

4. Pet owner guilt trips!!
Oh yeah--been there and DONE that one! Our old cat would love to sprawl in the middle of the kitchen floor and lay there flipping her tail around. It happened more than once that her tail got stepped on. Every time I'd feel like a total asshole for hurting her, and every time she'd be mad at me for a while--but it always passed.

Something to be really worried about however, is making sure to keep the lid closed on your washer and dryer. Kitties love those places and they CAN get hurt seriously if you do catch them in there accidentally. When yo mentioned that your kitty likes to hop in the fridge to check it out, it made me think about that danger.

Kitty could have been burned badly by stepping on that oven door. You did what you had to do, and try not to let it scar you for life! Next time, be sure and check for the cat before you open the door to the oven and I'm betting all will be fine.

5. I have stepped on my puppies numerous times
It is hard to avoid it because they HAVE to be next to my feet at all times for some reason. It isn't your fault- the only way they learn is by making mistakes, he will be back to normal soon!

6. Our two cats like to lie
at the top of the stairs. In the dark. And not move or make a sound when a human comes along. It's amazing neither feline nor human has ever been seriously hurt.

7. don't worry, cats have a short memory
. . . but hopefully he will "remember" not to jump on the oven door again!
